Legal Eagles for THQ and wrestling organisation WWE have spent the best part of six years battling over a previous deal regarding WWE games but have recently come to an agreement. MCV report that THQ will pay WWE $13.2 million and in return THQ now have the rights to publish WWE games until 2018. THQ president and CEO Brian Farrell slipped in to a pair of skimpy lycra briefs, smothered himself in oil and smashed a chair over the head of his PA before saying this,
“This agreement ensures that WWE games will continue to be an important cornerstone of THQ’s annual release schedule for the long term. We look forward to working directly with WWE to expand their brand in the video game space through continued game play innovation and increased online delivery of WWE content.”
So to summerise: Annual WWE games until 2018, et voila, my attention grabbing headline is true.

That’s a big plus for THQ. A LOT of their annual revenue is reliant on the WWE. They couldn’t of afforded to lose that.

That’s good news, this years game was actually good for once. Hopefully they can continue to improve it

last good wrestling game was on the dream arena that was the Dreamcast. Cant remember what it was called but it was prodominently Royal Rumble of sorts.

thats a shame. i was hoping that EA would take over and do better job. THQ doesn’t seem to be getting anywhere with the smackdown vs raw franchise. i think that it at least needs re-branding

I love these type of games and the most recent one seemed to have picked up a lot!

wait a second, doesn’t that mean WWE 2019 is confirmed, because a WWE game released in the end of a year (example: 2005) will be called WWE next year (2006)?

I was hoping the headline was about a wrestling game set in the future with, like, bionic wrestlers or something

This series has been on the slide since WWE Smackdown (5): Here Comes the Pain. Perhaps THQ can revamp the whole control system…I don’t think they will.

Nah, I think it Smackdown vs Raw (the first SVR) on PS2 was the last decent WWE game.
They will never make it as fun as it used to be as it’s becoming to realistic and therefore slower, more serious and believable and has lost the mindless fun element that made it enjoyable.

Forget the game, The Rock, Stone Cold & other oldies need to come back to ‘real wrestling’ pronto!

The Rock is coming back for an appearance at some point. Know what you mean though, fed up with John Cena and others every week
