Speaking to GameInformer, Jesse Divnich, director of analyst services for Electronic Entertainment Design and Research, believes we may see a glimpse of a new Grand Theft Auto title at the next E3. “I think we’re going to hear about another Grand Theft Auto. I think there won’t be any playable stuff. I think they’ll give you some type of teaser, because we do think that a year from then in 2011 we’re going to see another Grand Theft Auto.”
The big question, of course, is whether there’s going to be GTA IV style console exclusive DLC this time around. “I don’t foresee Microsoft or Sony attempting to obtain any type of exclusivity,” said Divnich. “Microsoft paid a lot of money for exclusivity on the downloadable content for GTA IV, which unfortunately did little to move consoles for Microsoft.” Remember, $50 Million is the reported figure that was banded around last year on the subject.
“Back in 2004, the Grand Theft Auto was a huge brand, but only relative to the other brands that existed at the time. While the GTA brand is certainly bigger now than it was five years ago, others have emerged to reach similar levels of success, such as Call of Duty or Guitar Hero. In other words, if Sony gets an exclusive deal on GTA V, it would do little to disrupt Microsoft’s ability to move hardware, and vice versa.” Let’s just wait and see, shall we?

Let’s hope this exclusivity doesn’t work out and anyone can enjoy the next of this game series.. Maybe by then they can make a certain statement about it being ‘not a game’? I’m excited about what influence HR can have on GTA, it could do great things for it’s gameplay…!

There won’t be exclusivity on the game itself anyway. Look how much Microsoft (supposedly) paid just for exclusive DLC, and that doesn’t seem to have been a profitable deal for them anyway. To get the actual game exclusive would be prohibitively costly for either company given the lost sales Rockstar would be wanting made up by the payment

Rockstar took the 50 mil and ran with it on the DLC. But the downside is clearly that it postponed the next GTA for at least a year.
Then again (and not being a big GTA fan I wouldn’t know), the two episodes apparently helped to really flesh out the city with new and old characters. It makes sense to make DLC like that, simply because they slaved away for years creating this engine and city and to ditch it after a single game would be stupid.
Fingers cross for london, it might be my first GTA if it is.

It makes sense, and its great in essence, but restricting it to one console is unfair and pathetic, I have a 360, I didn’t buy the additional content for that very reason.
London GTA would be cool, I think it will be Vice City again though, they seem to like doing the same cities.

If it were to come out next year you can guarantee microsoft will buy exclusivity of one kind or another. The 360 lineup is hardly stellar for 2010.

I think he reckons that it will be announced in 2010 and then released in 2011. Still MS might try and get some exlcusivity although don’t think it boosted sales last time round.

The GTA IV DLC was bolster a rather lacklustre release calendar, but with loads of great games coming out in 2010/11 for both consoles I don’t think anyone needs to have exclusive DLC anymore.

R* also have Red Dead: Redemption and maybe Agent coming out in FY 2010, so it’d be doubtful they’d put all their eggs in one basket and release a GTA in the same year, so I’d predict FY 2011 as a release date… would that make June’s E3 a bit early for anything more than a screenshot of the logo? Probably.

To get FY 2011 they’d have to make it by December 2011 (this is based on Take-Two Interactive, people always seem to forget they own R*. Take-Two also have BioShock2 next year). That might put E3 2011 a bit late for a game the size of GTA? Maybe GDC 2011 would be the best place for a tease with more details at E3 2011?

If Sony did make it exclusive wouldn’t that make more sales because it is a really popular game. It’s so populAr peeps go 2 get it at midnight lAunches so would it nt make sense that people would buy a console bundle 4 it.

Less people would buy a console for a game than to get it on thier console.

I’d like to see the next GTA in another European city, somewhere like Paris, Edinburgh or Manchester.
If not European then got to be Tokyo.
But as CC said, Red Dead and Agent also coming next year, i think 2011.

Paris, london, palermo or naples would be my choice of european locations.Manchester and edinburgh aren’t glamorous enough.Tokyo is a good choice but i think most fans want vice city 2,80’s music and decent driving.I’d love it if they did a GTA collection like god of war before they release 5.I’ve still got all the PS1+2 games but trophies and some graphical spit and polish would be sweet.

I would love them to take a massive cultural shift so we see quite a different GTA. Graphically it would be as functional (and as aesthetically pleasing) as ever but with the culture change would come game changes. The way people treat you; the way you deal with missions; with colleagues; friends and foes. Something Eastern would be tremendous but equally, if they couldn’t take that sort of marketing risk, then something more European as the yanks are used to games being set over here. As a franchise, potentially the sales figures might take a small hit but the respect would go through the roof if they take this proposed path. How much telling will R* take or can they call the shots 100%. Fingers crossed it’s the latter.

Japan is a huge market so if they plumped for tokyo they could gain a lot of japanese gamers to counteract any losses in the american market.

Agreed. Go here shoot 10 ppl, go there shoot 20 ppl *yawn*. Maybe I’m just old but AFAIR the missions in the previous installments were much more original and fun to play. GTA IV is seriously overrated.

I’d love to see a new GTA game soon, but I hope they don’t have exclusive content on any system. I think that it was very unfair to PS veterans, like myself, for Rockstar to allow that deal to happen, big smack in the face! I realize that the 1st 3 GTA games after the 1st two were available on Xbox after a timed-exclusive had expired for Sony, but I didn’t think that was fair to Xbox owners either.
