Facebookers and Tweeters rejoice, it sounds like the PS3 is going to get some social media additions. Sony’s Ray Maquire was asked by MCV how he saw the phenomena of social media developing for 2010,
“Sites such as Facebook and Twitter are now an integral part of people’s lifestyles and entertainment demands, so their integration into both hardware and software is an obvious and natural transition.”
As the PS3 already has a limited form of Facebook integration perhaps a future firmware update will bring ‘proper’ Facebook to the XMB along with a Tweeting app so you too can tell the entire world what you had for lunch. Can’t wait.

Twitter in-game?
That would be awesome.
Also gaming integration in twitter (just like what I’m playing) please!
Nice..

Yeah… but I think this means dedicated apps instead of stopping what you’re doing to boot up the (sluggish) browser

Did you actually copy & paste from the sentence you were typing into the sentence you were typing? Cause that: is some dedicated C&Ping.

Completely agree. Social networking… but without actually being there. So pretend-social-networking where people pretend to care about what you’re playing or what trophy you’ve won. Want to borrow my cynical hat? Doesn’t even require dusting off.

I talk to my mates in the US almost every day since Facebook, it used to be about an email every six months. I take you cynical hate, have a rather smelly poo in it, and place it neatly back on your cynical head. So ner!

I have a poo-hat. Why thank you!
I just don’t see the attraction. I’m still old skool and will actually call friends with my mobile. Maybe things will change this year.

Would you call EVERYONE you know to tell them your son just said his first word, or you just got a new car, or you have booked a holiday to Spain? No, yet a lot of them would be interested to know, hence Facebook.
It’s good for keeping geographically distant friends and relatives updated on your day to day events which, in themselves, aren’t worth making a call about.

Twitter app on ps3 would be brilliant, I use it a lot on the web browser just now and I’m fed up with the thing crashing.

I don’t know what to do with this, dont have facebook or twitter, and never gonna use it to. But then again, there are people who really like it. So I guess it’s just me

Its not just you. I thnk both are good ideas in principal, but are predominantly used for the most pointless reasons imaginable.

Twitter is pointless. Facebook is not.

Didn’t say it was. Just that it is used for pointless reasons by many of the users I know.

For me Twitter is highly useful, Facebook is cluttered crap.
However its all down to how individual users use it. After being invited to one too many pointless fucking groups and having one too many sheep thrown at me I deleted my FB account and never looked back, however my missus loves it.
In the end though both are time-sinks that the world would do just fine without.

Agree with you on facebook CC. Never bothered with an account myself, but my wife had one for about 3 months and ended up getting that sick of pointless messages and clutter that she deleted her account and hasn’t looked back either.
Dont get the whole “twitter” thing at all though…..

You only get pointless messages and sheep thrown at you if your friends are utter twunts, which is a fault of your friends not Facebook. If your friends are mature enough not to do that sort of thing, Facebook is a brilliant tool.

What I don’t get is why people who don’t like Facebook or Twitter feel the need to bash it so much. Not aiming this at anyone here but often people dismiss it totally and if you even mention facebook or twitter integration etc they scoff.
I use them both and find great benefits in doing so, if you don’t then fine, that’s your right, you don’t need to try and run it down and make me feel foolish for using it!
Fact is, it’s popular, so integrating it into PS3 is a good thing. If you don’t use it then it’s just a feature you have no use for but you can still appreciate it’s value surely? I never use remote play or the iPlayer on PS3 but I still think its great thats they are available.

Even though i love both Twitter and Facebook, I dont want to see everything youve done on PS3. My Fb news feed is now cluttered with trophy information and i remember Twitter when UC2 was all the craze.
I would use a twitter app, but not for automatically tweeting about games/trophies.

So go into facebook and select to hide Playstation Network from your news feed! It’s not exactly being forced on you.
That’s the thing about facebook, a lot of people complain about all the ‘crap’ they get in their news feed but you can simply hide any app by clicking the button on a feed item and no more updates from that app (whoever may be using it) will appear.

When you think about it the Friends List already has a Comment bubble over your PSN ID, so it would be logical to allow you the option to have your Tweets appearing over your PSN ID instead of a PSN comment – you could also have the option when updating the comment to either just have it as a PSN comment or post it to Twitter as well…

Never touched Facebook and never will as I know of far too many people who use it for extra-marital fun. It sounds like fun but after witnessing my in-laws break up in 2009 and seeing the effect it had on their family and my wife I’ve sworn never to touch it.

No offense and that does sound awful but you can hardly blame Facebook for that, any more than you can blame Vodafone for allowing someone to call a hitman

Ageed, hardly facebooks fault, I managed to pull whilst playing Little Big Planet online (being chatted up by a sackboy = all kinds of weirdness) shall we get rid of that as well?
