Irrational

Most famous for their underwater genetically modified first person shooter, Bioshock, Irrational Games are returning. To be more precise, their name is returning. The developer was acquired by Take Two before the release of Bioshock and their name was subsequently changed to 2K Boston, which is what most of you may recognise them as.

Irrational Games, who also make System Shock 2 and Freedom Force, have seen their original identity return after it was decided that it carried a legacy and legions of fans with it. They have a new swanky logo and, because it’s what all the cool kids do these days, they have a new website with a countdown. When this reaches 0:00:00:00 (1 day and 6 hours away at time of writing) we are apparently going to be treated to behind-the-scenes look at their games, including Bioshock, as well as some other community features.

  1. so did they make enough money to buy there name back??

    • I don’t think so. From what I can make out of this text, 2k Games realized that “Irrational Games” has enough identity to surpass “2k Boston” when releasing new titles.

  2. I thought this was basically announced in the summer? Maybe it was just one of those instances where everyone knew it was going to happen but nobody confirmed anything.
Anyway, it was a bit silly renaming them to 2K Boston in the first place, everyone just referred to them as “2K Boston (formerly Irrational Games)”.
