Modern Warfare 2 Makes $1 Billion

81Modern Warfare 2 was always going to be big and the hype, the release and the takings haven’t disappointed. Now, in just under 2 months, Infinity Ward’s creation has breached the $1 billion landmark.
If Activision’s internal estimates are correct then Modern Warfare 2 can now sit among the cream of the crop from various industries, not just video games, as one of the highest grossing entertainment releases in history. Mr. Kotick said:
There are only a handful of entertainment properties that have ever reached the $1bn mark, which illustrates the power of the Call of Duty franchise and mass appeal of this game.
This follows news that ELSPA and GFK Chart-Track have announced Modern Warfare 2 as the UK’s best-selling game of 2009, despite the fact that it has only been on sale since mid-November.
