French publisher Ubisoft have confirmed that Assassin’s Creed II has now sold over 6 million copies world-wide. It is now “on track” to sell 9 million by March. Assassin’s Creed II was only released in November last year and it was the UK’s 3rd and 4th biggest selling game of 2009 for the PS3 and Xbox 360 respectively.
With news that a new Assassin’s Creed game will be released within Ubisoft’s 2010/11 financial year (April 2010 – March 2011), one might speculate that they would want to replicate the success of ACII meaning that a pre-Christmas release may be more than likely.

Hopefully they build on the success of AC2 by concentrating solely on singleplayer.

Just got this today from LoveFilm,
I have been playing for 1 hour, and after a patch download, then an install and an unbelievable amount of unskippable badly drawn and badly animated cut-scenes I’ve actually had about 5 mins playing time… ▢▢▢▢▢ *yawn* ▢▢▢
Hoping my second hour fairs a bit better

Yup me too, I bought it on boxing day and could only tolerate the unskippable cut scenes up until the meeting with a certain Renaissance artist, haven’t bothered going back to it yet since.

Finished it on Tuesday. Stick with it guys, once you get 3-4 Hrs in the game starts proper. Enjoyed it, although as you say the cut scenes arent the best.

It’s a really slow started. Stick with it though.

I didn’t really notice that it had a slow start at all but so many people have said this that I may have to go back and start it again to see what it is all about.
I loved the game and look forward both the the DLC and a new installment. Not happy about it going online though, bit of a shame and I hope the main story does not suffer as a result.

Not only do the poor animations stick through the entire game, but you begin to hate your character more and more because he’s an arrogant wanker. Oh, and the missions are crap. And everybody with a beard looks like they don’t actually have a beard, but a piece of child scribbled paper pinned to their chin. The end is good though, well, because it’s the end.

Didnt find that myself. Thought Ezio was fine as a character (if a little one-dimensional), the missions were reasonably varied and in the most part fun and didnt really notice the beard thing. If you disliked it that much I’m amazed you managed to put the hours into completing it?

yep, same here. i rented it as i didn’t think ill like it…and 1 hour into it i just thought this is cack!…BUT a few hours in and i just couldn’t put it down! re-rented it so i could beat it. then i even got my 1st Plat trophy as i like the game so much!
One of the best games i have played! stick with it!
o and enjoy the story, really good and its different!

I thought the exact same, after about 3 hours i got addicted to it and played nothing else til completion. Then its not been picked up again since. Absolute no replay value at all but a very good game for one run through….bar the first couple of hours.
really cant see myself being arsed to pick up all the feathers for my platinum though, it just aint worth the time I would have to put in.

Thinking about it its the same reason I never platted Prince of Persia, they can get lost if they think im gonna spend hour after hour picking up light seed after light seed just for a bloody platinum.
Just another form of the grinder trophies which I refuse to waste my time with.

Agree on the feathers, did pretty much everything else but really cant be arsed to spend hours looking for them.

yea, i only got the feathers as i had lots to begin with. so i just grabbed a map of internet and picked up the rest.
My main gripe with trophy’s are the ones you need to complete the game on 3 different difficulty settings
i never do it. i just don’t enjoy a game if i’m dieing every 2seconds. so i do all games on regular, beat it, then shelf the game until at some point i want to play it again.

OK my second hour was fractionally better than my first, but it still ain’t great
The games graphics are technically awful, one of the worst ever on the PS3, there is texture & shadow pop-up/in everywhere, the screen tearing is also atrocious, to the point where it really interferes with the game – The Assassin Engine which powers the game needs binning in favour of the Far Cry engine.
Missions more varied than the first? Really?
It doesn’t really matter if you’re on a courier errand/assassination/anything else its basically the same – run across the rooftops to the map marker pick up parcel/kill someone then run back Whoop-de-do!
I’m gonna stick with it for another couple of hours but I’m much closer to Jim Sterling’s opinion than that of seemingly almost everyone else. Odd.

Yeah, the missions havnt improved greatly, the amount of ways which you can go about doing them has though (weapons, nades, poison etc) which for some people ‘could’ amount to mission improvments.
The cutscene graphics are terrible though, i mean REALLY terrible. It was like going back to PS3 day 1, and even then on the most part things wernt that bad.
Fortunatly for me graphics arnt the be all and end all of my gaming enjoyment. They really shouldnt be able to get away with it now though.
Reading back I sound like a contradiciting fool, maybe I am but I hope you all get what I mean.

I’ve had a few more hours with it today, and I really can’t see what people are on about.
Its one of the most boring, repetitive games I’ve ever played.
Graphically its an abomination, with texture and shadow pop-up/in at every turn, terrible, (the worst) unskippable cutscenes that ruin any sense of flow whatsoever. Like I said earlier the Assassins Engine needs binning in favour of the beautiful Far Cry Engine. The game may look good in still shots but its animated terrible where all the characters have the same walk, and follow some pre-determined path that was last seen in videogames in the 8bit days.
More varied missions my arse, every mission is the same it makes no difference to the mission type they’re all exactly the same except some of them you’re against the clock.
When I said I was much close to Jim Sterling’s opinion, I now actually think he may have overrated.
It has all the flaws of something like The Saboteur, but absolutely none of the charm.
3/10 (might be a bit generous) at least Teminator: Salvation has an easy platinum

You sure you’re not playing AC1?! Cos you’re ridiculously off the mark here.

I enjoyed AC1 at the time, but 2 years or so later they’re still peddling the same game – with about 2 extra bells & whistles which is basically a smoke screen.
I’m aware the popular opinion of this title is that it’s rather good but I absolutley can’t see how.
AC1 + bells & whistles + 2 years of time = very poor game (IMO, of course)

Its funny you say you liked the first one at the time because I didnt, it was far too repetitive, the story wasnt much to shout about. Then I get AC2 was shocked by the terrible graphics in the first few hours but then I saw past it and let the story draw me in. After that I fast became addicted to it.

I feel that I should give this another go, I mean I played about half an hour, and as cc said all I’ve done is watch some awful cutscenes (well awful after Uncharted anyway) and do some really bad combat. And now I’ve got to get to a Church roof in a race?
Its not fun at the moment even though all my friends have said its great. I just can’t be bothered to get past the boring bit!

9,000,000 sales before March?
Thats the real reason Splinter Cell: Conviction has been pushed to April, it just makes good accounting.

I had a BIG problem with this game, (well it was completely my fault!) I had just recently finished playing uncharted2 to death and thought I would have a change! Then I popped AC2 into my PS3 and started playing… To keep the story short I found it dull as hell with shoddy graphics compared to Uncharted2!!! I shall pick it up again soon and give it a second chance, as all my friends say I’m crazy for not loving it…

Preferred it to UC2 TBH. Found the open world environment, combat and story more satisfying. Don’t get me wrong, I liked UC2 a lot but didnt think anything about it (other than visuals and cutscenes) was particularly amazing, just solid and dependable.

IMO the first game was that bad, the sequel shouldn’t have been financed. Totally put me off the franchise & no amount of positive reviews for ACII can redeem it.
