Polyphony Digital don’t like rushing. It also appears, going off further delays reported overnight that they don’t really like releasing games at all, never mind rushing them.
“We think that we’ll release this game in Autumn, before Christmas, but it is not decided yet,” said SCEE’s James Armstrong in an interview with Canarias Al Dia. “GT5 is a great hope for Sony,” he continued, “a very important game for the company, which generates much income.”
Well, it might, if you ever get it out. We should clarify that the above is a translation, but it does show that the release of the game, which was originally pitched at 2009, then moved to March 2010, then delayed again, is starting to drag for Sony.
“We would like to release GT5 before Autumn,” said Armstrong, “but we think that the priority is to make this game with the best quality as possible.”

Although it will still be thrashed its the only PS3 title that stands a chance of selling within 5m of Halo Reach
There are also other forces at work, like 3D and Headtracking, the former of which won’t be ready till autumn anyway

Not for one second did I think this would slide until 2011 but it actually could. My god, do they have no concept of a deadline? We have truly incredible games already released and they didn’t take the same sort of time. Less cars, more game, please!

Because they don’t like to put games out on the PS3?
Or because GT5 is like the cake in Portal?

It better be something great when they get round to releasing it.

It is starting to look that way. Whenever a new idea comes out, they have to intergrate it.

Thats pretty much what killed DNF.. Every new idea that came along, they wanted to put into the game, so that in the end they could never draw a line under it and call it done. Apparently, DNF was pretty much complete quite a few times in its development cycle, but they were so ingrained in the development, they couldnt see it. Im starting to worry that the same thing is happening here with the 3D and head tracking.. Personally, I think they should release it now and then release a 3D “special edition” later.

Yes!! I bought my PS3 back in November 2007, in the hope that GT5 was only a few months away. That was over 3 years ago!

LOL!! Yeah a Jamaican friend of mine is holding out years now to buy a PS3 JUST for GT5. He’ll laugh when I tell him it’s delayed again.

I have no problems with games getting delayed as a rule as long as I see some good reason why it was pushed back in the final product. So knowing GT5 has been pushed back this far the end result had better be the best racing game ever created IMO.
Until the release of GT5 I will just play more Forza 3 and enjoy it

It’s frickin hilarious. I just wish they would bin it or release it, i’m fed up with hearing about it to be honest. I’m not getting it anyway, plenty of other fun games this year.

Just remember that last year they said “we could release it now if we wanted to”. Yeh right. Hey, I can probably throw a dukey ’round the u-bend but that doesn’t mean I should. Get it sorted, Polyphony.

Aww come on! When I wrote in the new years resolutions bit that my resolution for 2011 was getting gt5 on release day I was only kidding Sony. Jeez, do they not have a sense of humour?

Ah so they’ve got George Broussard setting their development schedule then. Good to know.

Thought: Maybe they’re spending too much time showing how nice the cars compared to real cars. I mean setting up all those photo shoots must take some time etc…
Disclaimer: This is a joke, I know the company isn’t structured like that

I think the delay is from Kazunori Yamauchi losing the plot completely and he’s currently barricaded himself into the Polyphony office and is Photoshopping all the dents and dings out of the damaged cars. Milk bottles of pee everywhere. Howard Hughes style.

If any game is under the biggest amount of pressure and expectation then GT5 is it.
Do i think GT5 will rock?
I think GT5 will be the greatest console driving experience ever.
I have no doubt of its quality – just realy want to play it now sick of waiting to be honest. However the amount of upcoming titles will keep me more than busy until my fave british season which is autumn…. for pd ske – this game had better be the mutt’s nutt’s ;o)

If you have bought and followed GT from the start then this is normal for GT. I had hoped for a 2009 holiday release but when it got put back i kinda thought it would end up been a 2010 holiday release. Every GT game has been massive and genre changing when it released and with the first proper release on the PS3 it will want to get it right! Its like MGS for release dates, but when they arrive all thats is forgiven and forgotten as the game is just amazing.
Lets face it with all the games coming out at the moment and those planned for release in early summer it makes sense to release this later in the year with head tracking, possible motion control, and 3D all in the box, that would make it THE racing game of the generation, which GT always has been.
Anyway its just convinced me to pick up Dirt 2 to scratch that racing itch i have, just gotta find it cheap now.

Other than the first GT, I challenge you to explain how subsequent versions changed a genre. They were upgrades. Very spangly upgrades. Even now, damage isn’t on all the cars. Even now, the game still looks sterile. Even now, they’re still chasing numbers instead of creating an experience (as oppose to a simulator). *throws down gauntlet*

they push the tech, not the genre (IMO)

Agreed. The hardware is pushed to its limits but how has that changed the franchise? I can’t honestly say I can see where. I know it’s a wonderfully successful title but there’s still some truly massive flaws in it.
The above negates the photo-realistic look they’re trying to achieve. Kudos to that but that’s still a graphical upgrade.
