As Team TSA climbs up the worldwide rankings it becomes harder to progress. Obviously the higher ranked teams are folding more which is why they are up there in the first place. Therefore, the fact that the team’s efforts in January meant that we gained 153 places compared to December’s 151 is great news.

Team Stats

New Rank Old Rank Diff. Teamname Points WUs
1273 1426 153 TheSixthAxis 2,498,934 8,416

We have maintained our rate of climb up the rankings by increasing the number of work units completed in January by almost 20% compared to December.  The number of points those work units contributed to our score (just shy of 460,000) is close to one fifth of our total score so far.

Our increasing rate of work unit completion is of course not only due to the valiant efforts of those team members who have been folding for a while, but also to those who have only recently joined.  Here, in the first of what may become a regular occurrence, is a special mention to those who joined the team during January.

Time for a textual break from numbers and tables to bring you our customary recruitment pitch.  We could appeal to your vanity as folding for Team TSA offers you a chance to get yourself a mention in our monthly updates.

We could try and appeal to your better nature (and attempt to send you on a guilt trip for not contributing) as the real beneficiary of your folding efforts is the biomedical research projects whose science is the whole reason for the Folding@home projects existence.

Alternatively if you are just looking for another way to participate in TSA’s community you are more than welcome.  Whatever reason motivates you to consider joining the team check out last month’s update for a little more information on Folding@home and links to the parts our our forum with joining instructions and where to ask for help.

One more thing before we leave you with the all-time top 25 TSA folders and this month’s graphs… if you want to carry your Folding@home around with your on a USB stick so you can run it from whichever computer you are currently sat in front of (assuming you have permission of course) Jas-n has crafted a little package to allow you to do just that which you can download from here.  Happy folding.

  1. Great work, fold on guys!

  2. We climbed over 300 spots in two months! That is awesome!

    • Dude, how many machines are you folding on to churn out that sort of figure?

      • I thought I did pretty good in January but I only did 10% of RedStarGlow’s folding! Great numbers for the team, but I’m impressed by the top 10.

      • Two factors….

Get the Beta Folding Client for your PCs… More points but sometimes it fails
Second… I fold with my PS3, Quad Core PC, and Dual Core Amd. Most of the recent damage comes from my Quad running FAH as a service.

My PS3 folding 24/7 unless I am playing on it.

      • Here are the extra flags I use -smp -forceasm -verbosity 9 to get the most out of multiple cores.

  3. We already climbed another 8 since this update posted!

  4. Whey, my name is on a list!! ….just….

  5. Damn i’ve dropped out. Massive push in Feb for me. Sorry guys.

  6. I’ll take credit for whoever has named themselves ‘Mike’ cos it ain’t me ;)

  7. Damn, that top 10 is like an inpenetrable fortress of folding. Doesn’t hurt to try and break into it, mind ;)

  8. Well done people. ill join the group in a minute if okay with you.

  9. I am amazed at how many units are done by some users. I did my first ever the other week and I just worry that my poor old 60Gb will die if I leave it on too long, failing that it gets so hot it heats the room.

  10. Top graphs! Sadly, my house move is impacting things so I’ll be piss-poor for the next two weeks (read: not folding). However, my new place will be having a far faster connection and I can see me getting a new machine pretty soon. Folding@Home won’t know what’s hit it! :D

As always, thanks to Greg and Jas-n for all your hard work.

    • I need to configure my new PC, I only have 1 core running on it, can have 10 (if you can have one per GPU, otherwise 9, although, might have 5 or 6, one per physical core)

      • I haven’t a clue as to what I’ll get but shall work out a budget then consult with my mate. Scary, scary knowledge of hardware and just a mile away from the new place (after moving house).

  11. Oh dear lost another place this month, need to stem the fall. Shame you can’t see how many CPUs are being used anymore.

  12. Well done all, hopefully I’ll be able to hit the top 10 next month.
