It’s the big Microsoft X10 show this week and our very own ColossalBlue is jumping on a plane right now to cover the event. There are lots of rumours of what is going to be shown and Fable creator Peter Molyneux is stoking the flames.
“There’s some very, very big things happening in Fable III and it’s really going to upset people,” said Molyneux, ”I’m really scared when I go out and tell people what it is [that] they’re going to get super pissed off. They really are.”
We know Fable III is going to have Natal support, perhaps he’s hinting that Natal may be required for the game? Molyneux will not stop singing the praises of the Microsoft motion control;
“The mouse was the real revolution of the PC – not the Intel processor – and who’s to say Natal [couldn't] end up creating something you and I can’t even imagine now. It forces us to approach technology in a completely different way. Before the mouse, we only had the keyboard… That one little £9.95 device [that] changed everything about computing, and things like Natal can be a bigger change.”
I wonder if Microsoft will use Peter’s sound bite for its advertising. “Natal: Bigger than a Mouse”
This week has also seen the very first picture of Natal in the wild, spotted by T3. Attached to a Gorilla-Pod (normally used to keep cameras steady) it looks rather like the Borg has assimilated Johnny 5 from Short Circuit.

There’s a few things this could be due to..
As you say, it could require Natal.
Could have micro-transactions.
It could be episodic.

That looks like the compact Gorilla-Pod which would make this image of Natal significantly smaller than previous images. Obviously not finished but at a rough guess I’d say that’s around 5 inches long by about 1 inch high.
Hopefully I’ll see it at X10 (I leave early in the morning) and be able to report back.

That looks like a micros USB cable sticking out of the top so I’d guess at the unit being slightly larger than 5 inches long. That said, big or small, it looks fugly.

Only time will tell with Natal and I am not so sure its gonna work. I feel the same about Arc even though it has a better form of connection between player and game [wand].
I want them to convince me otherwise though – only i really dont get Peter – his games are utter shite – i hated Fable with a passion.

im really getting sick of this whole “natal will change the world” thing. i dont want motion control to replace the controller. i want to be able to choose how i want to play. i dont think natal will be as revolutionary as the mouse. i hope arc and natal do well and i think they both will, but i want my controllers, dang it.

Has Peter Molyneux even heard of the EyeToy?! Yes Natal has more bells and whistles but the core concept is the same as an EyeToy – to use his own analogy EyeToy was an early one-button mouse and Natal is a two-button mouse with a scroll wheel! If EyeToy didn’t change the gaming landscape neither will Natal…

It’ll be Natal only. I mean he cant stop praising the thing, it fits the bill as its a fairly high profile game and will annoy the hardcore if its Natal only.
Cause Microsoft need a big-ish franchise to help with the launch, and Fable is sort of a throw away franchise. No one really cares if its crap, cause its never been amazing. So if Natal does bugger it up, its more of the same, and if it makes it amazing, win win for Microsoft.
