World Of Warcraft On Consoles?

Wouldn’t it be amazing if World of Warcraft came to consoles? It is one of the most popular games in the World after all. But what are the prospects of this ever happening?

According to lead producer, J. Allen Brack it is something which Blizzard talk about constantly, although it seems that the challenges of actually bringing the game to Xbox 360 and PS3 may be one that they are not able to pull off.

Brack’s reasons for the challenges the developers face mainly stem down to the lifecycle of the consoles, along with the fact that they need to balance their own quality control along with that of the console manufacturer. Then there is the fact that WOW is designed for a keyboard, giving them even more to think about.

This is all very well, but what we want to know is, Will World of Warcraft ever see light of day on our favorite consoles? Well I will leave the last word on this to Mr Brack, who told G4TV,

I think it’s unlikely that WoW comes to the consoles, it is something that we talk about on a pretty regular basis, but someone is going to figure out how to make an MMO on a console and they’re going to be wildly successful. I have no doubt about that.

So there you go, our dreams are shattered, thanks Mr Brack.

Shame, my favorite genre is RPG’s like this, Oblivion etc.. Wizards, Big Swords and Epic stories FTW.

I hated WoW , spent a fortune on it too ( just to play one bloody months worth too ! ) so really couldnt care less about that .
Diablo III however…….

Still waiting for Sony online entertainment games which are looking great. Maybe if successfulWoW could come to consoles? be interesting to see

  People said that about RTS and turned based games but Civ Rev was amazing and Halo Wars was pretty damn good, it just takes intelligent interface design.

I got right into Guild Wars, a non-subscription based MMO. No monthly fees, and plenty to do. Its a very good and well polished example of how a one off payment MMO can work. Something like this on console would rock.

  It was all very well and good, but you couldn’t jump, which always fraustrates me in a game. Now City of Heroes – there was a game in which you could really jump.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t FFXI a MMO on the 360 and PS2? Also FFXIV is coming and that is for consoles too.

    I never had a chance to play XI but always wanted to, quite a few people included yourself have said that now. I just don’t agree with paying a subscription when you pay £35/£40 for the game itself. I know about the server costs and stuff but still.

Shame, I’ve never played WoW but have been intrigued for a while. Could do with something worthwhile to invest some time in (did I just say that about a computer game?!).

i spent way too long playing wow. it’d be nice to see it coming to a console but i cant see myself jumping back into it

Why don’t more PS3 games allow for a keyboard and mouse setup, like Unreal Tournament did? Even if just a small PSN title just to see how much interest there is in it, or how much support it would get.
