Ealier on today we had a rumour that Sony were going to launch a firmware update in June which will upgrade your standard 2d console in to a super sexy PS3D. This rumour now appears to have been confirmed by Reuters in a report about the new line of Sony three dimensional televisions, It states:

“The maker of the PlayStation 3 game console plans to release 3D game software around June in time for TV launch.”

Excellent news for all you early adopters – not that there will be many of you according to our recent poll.

  1. That’s that sorted then. I’m more likely to use 3D than cross game chat.

    • People are more likely to pay £15 for a headset than £5,000 for a 3D TV though. I’m still betting that the whole thing is a fad that will die on its arse anyway.

      • £5,000, even the autostereoscopic TV’s that are available now aren’t that much.

      • I’m not ready to change my new HD TV
I think It’s too ****ing soon

      • OK OK, I was just saying they aren’t THAT much.

      • Alot of people don’t seem to want to buy a new TV yet, but I mean, you don’t have to get 3D technology straight away. You could even let the tech mature a bit first, I know not being an early adopter will feel wrong to a few of the people around here, but you might actually appreciate the extra polish.

    • Yeah…too expensive…plus you know you have to buy glasses separately…for like a hundred quid or more! Don’t think I’ll be going near 3d til it comes down a considerable amount.

      • yes, on their own the Sony glasses cost a £100 , but they come in a bundle with the 3D tv, so it;s not that bad.

  2. Nice, but us regular folk will have to wait a while.

It will be nice if Electronic Stores have a demo setup so we can check it out – our local Currys might even start having customers again if they do this.

    • SONY centres should do! The one in Heathrow T5 has done for a while

      • Cool, we have a Sony Centre in town. Will have to investigate as I am not making a trip to Heathrow for this. Thanks.

  3. That reminds me, I need to buy tickets for tonight’s lottery.
I must have me some 3D Blu-rays and gaming

    • You should start a TSA Syndicate, then maybe we can add to the early adopters ;)

    • If you win could you buy me a lottery ticket? then If I win I promise I’ll pay you back.

    • I thought you were gonna say the lottery was on in 3d then!
      Imagine that…balls in your face…err…no…I meant…nevermind…

  4. Is 3D BluRay porn on the cards?

    • Not until the motion controller comes out

      • no it doesn’t

      • So you actually do that to your TV? You pervert!

  5. I can haz LX900?

  6. Need. More. MONEY!

  7. This is good news but it will be a while before its widely used.

  8. I’m looking forward to Kevin Butler, VP of the 3rd Dimension, doing an ‘It Only Does 3D’ commercial! :)

  9. Don’t care for 3D.
Just recently bought a 46″ Sony Bravia and I don’t feel like spending that much money again any time soon.

    • +1
does it work on Non-3D HD TV’s?

      • Presuming you’re on about the firmware update, of course, there’s probably just an extra option when you set-up your TV (where it detects the modes your TV supports), if you don’t select 3D, it won’t output the signals.

  10. Why are people getting so angry about this?
If you just spent lots of money on your HDTV then don’t buy a 3D one. No one is saying they will suddenly stop making games that work on regular TVs and no one is forcing you to buy a 3D one.

I’m sure a lot of people on here don’t have a 5.1 surround system connected to their console, quite a few don’t have HDTVs and most of us haven’t upgraded our whole movie collection to BluRay. You don’t HAVE to have eveything the console can support, as soon as it supports it.
Surely you have to be pleased that Sony are making sure the PS3 is up to date with the very latest developments?

    • The only reason I can see for frustration is my own particular beef with Sony using the PS3 as a hardware guinea pig. I’d like them to concentrate on providing an incredible 2D experience first and foremost.

      • Would you not say they already do that then?
