There are many new technologies on show at GDC, however perhaps one of the most interesting comes from Paris Based developer Darkworks and their new TriOviz for Games SDK.

It is being reported that this new software will allow standard 2D games to be played in 3D and the best part is that this will all take place on a standard tv, eradicating the need to spend out thousands on a new 3DTV.

The software works by combining with the 3D glasses and “leveraging the depth-of-field while maintaining the original gameplay and colour integrity.” What all this means is that you do not need any special gameplay modes to play in 3D and therefore any observers in the room would be able to view the game as they would normally, without any blur.

Any existing games can utilize this technology, therefore if it takes off we can expect to see new dlc appearing to help support our favorite games sometime in the future.

  1. Seems interesting! I don’t like to spend some thousends on a new TV set.

  2. It is to 3D what upscaling is to HD
A halfway house that will muddy the waters of 3D adoption

    • At least it will be an affordable option.
I still think the people who can afford to buy a new 3D TV will, the rest of us could use the above solution until the price of 3D TVs drop to a sensible level.

    • that sounds dangerous but cool

    • It’s called Reality ;)

      • Of course! but i like to have a chuckle … as long as other’s are having a chuckle too … anyway that one was fair game ;)

3D with the naked eye is very interesting indeed and i’ll have to google for some more info on that.

    • I thought it was going to be the red/blue glasses but if it keeps the colours from ‘blacking’ out and can be used on standard tvs it does sound interesting. Sounds like it’s ready to go so we’ll find out how it measures soon enough.

  3. This sounds interesting! I was reluctant to buy a 3D TV. Well, I completely refused to buy one. I don’t even have an HD one.

    • me too. It definitely wont be worth it until a few years time, it’s like HD, it came out getting everyone to buy the new TV’s and they still can’t send out the higher 1080p definition. I wont be purchasing this rubbish until I know it works properly, the TV’s are cheap, there is no blur (lots with football/action films) and the TV are reliable.

  4. The most interesting part of this is the “any observers in the room would be able to view the game as they would normally, without any blur.” bit. I don;t mind watching my mates play CoD every now and then but I can’t imagine wanting to put on glasses to do it…

  5. Still have a SD tv great if this’ll will work on this

  6. This is the technology that will be included in the Batman Arkham Asylum Game of the Year Edition, so I guess we’ll find out soon enough if it’s any good…

    • Na don’t think it is. Its the old school red and blue cardboard glasses 3D

      • No, it is trioviz. It was in the original press releases etc.

  7. will be glad to try it out without buying a new TV :P

  8. Oh, cool. Sounds good. I’ve been reading some articles on 3D, it’s progressed so much.

  9. tell me more…. i cant afford £4000

    • I dint know why you keep posting £4000. Sanding have announced 19 different models for the US Market from $500-$6000 there is one announced for the UK at £1,800 and the price will only come down

      • £1800 is still pretty expensive though?
Like any tech, the price will plummet after 6 months anyway. As a result, I’ll wait.

      • There was a 32 inch LED 3d tv advertised in a newspaper yesterday for £1300.

      • And I bet that’s a 50″ too
