Sony have revealed that the PlayStation 3′s memory will not suffer due to their new Move controller.
Speaking during a PlayStation MOVE introduction at GDC, David Coombes, Kirk Bender and Anton Mikhailov revealed that the new controller will have very little impact on the machines performance with demands only reaching 1-2 MB of system memory.
Furthermore during the tech demo, David Coombes also showcased the precision and low latency of the device, with one demo even showing off full body tracking using an on-screen body puppet.
The more we hear about MOVE, the more impressive it begins to sound, now all we need to do is get our hands on it and let you know how we feel about it then.

Sounds lovely. Didn’t the bods at Sony recently free up around 70MB of memory? If so, that’s more than enough to handle the slight hit Move makes.

Wanted "Trophy Hunter" but was too late.

I believe the 70MB was an incorrect amount and while they did free up some memory, it wasn’t that much.

I believe 70MB was kinda correct *coughs* in the sense that the original Operating System started out at 120MB and is now a svelte 50MB. However, they were fairly quick bringing it down to 96MB then down to that figure of 50MB late 2009. With all that in mind, you are indeed correct (can’t I be correct too? :D ) about them not saving 70MB recently but at least they’ve saved it overall. Finally, there’s still plenty on tap with the new savings to handle Move.

But still they’ve made it a lot better since launch, and it doesn’t seem beyond the realms of possibility for Sony to squeeze out anothe 1MB of memory space between now and the launch of Move – and if that happens Move would ‘cost’ nothing in terms of memory.
.
If Sony were smart they would squeeze out another 2MB and then ‘reserve’ it somehow for Move use only – in other words devs supporting Move are ‘given’ the extra resource to cover it…

ugh.. CAD doesn’t do much for me, to be honest. Anyway, it’s not exactly the first really obvious name for a console or peripheral.
NES=Nintendo Entertainment System
SNES=Super Nintendo Entertainment System
Playstation=a place/object/machine/STATION you go to in order to PLAY games.
Gamecube=a GAMEs machine that is shaped somewhat like a CUBE
XBox=a BOX which comes from MS’s continued development of their graphics API called DirectX
XBox360= an XBox successor who’s version number is 357 higher than their closest percieved competitor’s, simply because MS is determined to prove that their schlong is bigger.
Natal= a codename that is freakishly related to child birth…
Some products need a cool name, some need something simple so that the public can grasp what it is very quickly. The iPod has a cool name, and fitted in with Apple’s computer line. The Wii had the tech world in fits of giggles till it was a massive success. Natal is just a bizarre name through and through. The Move has an easy to grasp name, explaining its mission statement in a single word and also has a very clever logo.
The logo, which the whole internet seems to have failed to understand is like a light graffiti of someone writing an M in the air with the controller, except that the first half has faded away. Very clever, possibly too clever for most. Dyu see why Sony went for something simple now? If the internet can’t even grasp the logo, or even how completely ludicrous the name Natal is, how on earth would Arc or Gem compete with their idiocy?

“Furthermore during the tech demo, David Coombes also showcased the precision and low latency of the device, with one demo even showing off full body tracking using an on-screen body puppet.”
.
Ports of Natal games confirmed then! LOL j/k.
.
But seriously, if that did happen it would be a bit embarrassing for Microsoft and their multi-million dollar camera and 30% system overhead if the Eye webcam and 1MB of system memory can do (more or less) the same thing!
.
Ultimately I firmly believe Move is the better product (for casual and hardcore), but I also believe Natal will have a more flashy (and obscenely expensive) advertising campaign. Even now in the media you have so-called reporters singing the praises of Natal (without knowing anything about it or probably even seeing it in action) and at the same time being very negative to Move with a “they’re just trying to cash-in on the Wii and it is exactly the same as the Wiimote” vibe to the stories. It’s really annoying how so many sites on the internet seem to make out that the sun shines out of Bill Gate’s arse!

Yeah I’m pretty sick of everyone calling it a Wii clone and saying Ms are being more innovative. I’d say Natal and Eyetoy have a lot more in common than Wii and Move, for one thing the Wii uses infrared while the move uses image recognition. If anything Move is most similar to motion capture in movies, so Sony must be copying them. It’s just another case of people not knowing anything about what they’re trying to argue about

:lol: They’re on about system memory, not HDD (HardDisk Drive space). ;)

Wow, only 1-2Mb memory, that’s impressive. I’d like to see the full body tracking demo.
