Last week we started our new feature, What Happened at the Weekend, giving you a roundup of the news from a usually quiet time of the week. Well it’s that time again already, however this weekend has hardly been a quiet one.

The news started to filter through as soon as Saturday morning and it hasn’t really stopped all the way up until now, so let’s being our round up.

Saturday

Today was a fairly big news day considering it was a Saturday and it all began with,

GT5 Date Soon

Yes that’s right, Sony revealed that they will be announcing the release date of Gran Turismo 5 very soon. Sure it’s an announcement of an announcement, but this is still one game that everyone wants to know when it’s coming. So when is it coming eh Sony? Promise we won’t tell (fingers crossed behind back).

Wicked PS3 Concepts

We all like to think that we can design a better XMB than Sony can, well Caemgen from NeoGaf did and he kindly allowed us to publish his designs. As you can see they look absolutely wonderful and there are some brilliant designs in there. Maybe Sony should take note, or maybe even hire the man.

360 Is American King

Yes we know Mr Greenberg, Xbox 360 was THE console in America last month, managing to strike up impressive sales of 422,000, making for the best ever month of February for the console. What gets us though is why? It’s not like Microsoft have released any new blockbuster games recently or maybe the Americans know something we don’t. Either way congratulations to MS on their pocket lining victory.

Insomniac Working on 360?

Perhaps the biggest news of the weekend is that Insomniac may be getting into bed with Xbox. Not content with making games solely for PS3, it seems the developer wants a slice of the 360′s pie and who can blame them? It would increase their profit after all and who knows, may even help them to improve the Resistance and Ratchet franchises thanks to their new found experience.

Demon’s Souls Heading To Europe?

News emerged that PS3 exclusive Demon’s Souls is finally heading to Europe. A Spanish magazine got the scoop on the RPG finally reaching our shores, although we have no idea who is publishing it over here so we aren’t able to confirm this 100 percent at the moment. Still it’s good news if true because it’s a fantastic game.

Sunday

The day of rest, but not for Xbox.com who accidentally revealed some juicy information regarding a certain game and then there was Sony revealing that GT5 is getting into motion.

Modern Warfare 2 DLC Detailed

Xbox.com let slip the details of the new Stimulus Package for Modern Warfare 2. The new DLC includes five maps, two of which are taken from Modern Warfare, nothing like a bit of recycling eh? Anyway we have no details of cost in regards to the new content, but we do know that it will only be exclusive to Xbox Live for one month, which begs the question, why?

Gran Turismo To Support Move

Perhaps the most bizarre news of the day is that Gran Turismo 5 is to support Move, along with Split/Second and ModNation Racers. Now forgive us for being a bit skeptical but how is this going to work? Are we going to be plugging our Move controller into a plastic shaped wheel ala Mario Kart? We sure hope not. On the plus side though, if these three pretty amazing racers are supporting the Move, then it does seems to point to the fact that Sony just may have something pretty amazing up their sleeves.

A Week In Screenshots

TheSixthAxis is always thinking of new ideas and today another appeared in A Week In Screenshots, a visual view of gaming from the previous week. We would like to know if you like the feature to enable us to decide whether to bring it back next week, so let us know your thoughts.

Elsewhere on TheSixthAxis this weekend, we revealed that you can now get your hands on the Dead or Alive: Paradise Demo, showed you a new trailer for Deus Ex explained why we feel Ico deserves its own collection in Sunday Thoughts and also showed you a interview with the Blade Kitten developers.

What A Weekend

So there you go it was certainly a busier weekend than normal for us and the world of gaming, what will next weekend bring? Who knows, but we will be back with What Happened at the Weekend to let you know.

Until then though, Stay Classy SixthAxis readers.
