Reports are emerging today that the next Xbox 360 system update may allow users to use external USB storage to save files.

A report on Joystiq, who seem to have got hold of a leaked document states that “due to increased market penetration of high-capacity, high throughput USB mass storage devices, a 2010 Xbox 360 system update will allow consumers to save and load game data from USB devices.”

Microsoft removed the ability to use unofficial 360 memory units in October last year, however this move would be smart on the companies behalf as it would remove the confines of the current HDD space and allow users to immediately have practically unlimited space to play with.

The site finally suggests that the update is due this spring.
