As TheSixthAxis is a Europe centric web-site, we appreciate that not all of you who read the site are based in the UK. Hence, whenever we hear of anything that affects the wider European gaming family, we like to highlight it.

As you are probably already aware, FirstPlay – Sony’s new “weekly interactive show from the team behind Official PlayStation magazine” – launches today. Though we’re excited about the prospect, we were a tad disappointed when we learned that the service is available only to UK PS3 owners. Of course, the UK is one of Sony’s main markets in the wider European region, and we’re not ignoring the fact that the Official PlayStation magazine in question is the UK flavour in particular, hence it makes sense to some degree that this new feature is only available to the UK region. That said, it’s SCEE – not SCEUK – so, just like the Video Store, we expect Sony to roll current country-specific features out to the rest of Europe in time.

Over on the official blog – on the very post announcing the new service as available from today in fact – many non-UK based PS3 owners are voicing their dissatisfaction toward yet another feature they’re missing out on due to their specific location. Good news, however, as Jem Alexander has jumped right in from the getgo (replying to comment #2) and stated:

“For the launch, this is UK only, but we’re looking to roll this out to other territories in the future.”

In an unrelated comment, Mike Kebby has also confirmed that weekly PSN updates will be shifting from their usual Thursday slot to Wednesdays. The first of such rescheduled updates will commence from the start of May.
