Paul W.S. Anderson, the writer and director of the ‘good’ Resident Evil movie (the first one) has returned to the saddle for Resident Evil: Afterlife. This is a good thing as he third movie had nothing to do with the games but Resi 4 (the film) goes back to its roots features the Majin and the Executioner from Resi 5 (the game) as well as a lot of exploding heads and tentacles. Also making is his first film appearance is Chris Redfield, played by Prison Break star Wentworth Miller.
Resident Evil: Afterlife has nothing to do with this news post, I’m just looking forward to it. What is news is that director Paul W.S. Anderson has decided he would like to move in to creating games simultaneously with movies.
“In the future I want to be developing intellectual properties that will occupy both spaces simultaneously,” he said, “I’ve been actively involved in the gaming world for 15 years now, talking to developers ever since ‘Mortal Kombat,’ so I think I have a very good appreciation for what their needs and what their concerns are. I think I really do know how to join the two medias, [games and movies], together in a successful way, and that’s what I’ll be working on in the next few years.”
The first project to get the movie/game development mash up from Anderson will be Buck Rogers. The thought occurs that if Anderson is getting in to games we may see a “Resident Evil Movie” game which could be a very good move. Use this Resi ‘Movie’ games as fast pace action shooters (which Resi 5 tried to be) and then keep the Resi ‘Game’ games as the more horror lead, creeping round a haunted house with a zombie chasing me type of game. What do you think? Why not have a look at the Resident Evil: Afterlife trailer while you think and look at the explodey-head-tentacle things.
