Yestereday Electronic Arts announced that all EA Sports titles will come with a one use code for online play. If you buy the game second hand then it will cost an extra $10 to enable the networked features.

This will generate extra revenue for EA and encourage people to buy the title brand new but it will also devalue the market for second hand games. GAME, HMV, Blockbuster and others will not be able to sell EA sports titles at their regular second hand price. The game is effectively crippled for online play and any stores selling second hand items will have to advise purchasers accordingly. This in turn means the trade in value for EA Sports titles will drop.

Will this discourage you from buying EA titles, either new in the knowledge that the trade in value has decreased, or second hand as you will have to pay more to enable online?
