TSA E3 Bingo

Just two days now until E3 kicks off. Let us hope that E3 is a good deal more entertaining than England’s last two performances, with Green scoring for the U.S. and us losing three nil to Japan.  Still the pundits are telling us that we drew our first game in 1966 so there is no cause for concern.  Yeah, right.

Anyway, back in the real world, with E3 happening in its entirety before England next play there will hopefully be a lot of great news for gamers by the end of the week.  Your cumulative picks for our E3 Bingo give us an insight into what you are hoping for or expecting so let us take a look at them.

There were 73 valid entries giving me a total of 873 picks to record.  Now the mathematical ones among you will have noticed that 873 does not divide by 73 without leaving a remainder.  The reason for that is that three of you who entered were so confident of your first eleven picks that you decided you did not need a twelfth.

Your Top Twelve

It is little surprise that your top pick matched that of the staff and that like us you are hoping to see Kevin Butler on stage.  The main differences are that you are expecting Resistance 3 while we predict the ‘Team Ico Collection’ and we do not expect a new PSP and you think Move will be priced.

What Else You Think Will Happen

Unfortunately for the 21 of you who predicted that Motorstorm 3 would début at E3, Sony chose to announce it this week.  Comparing some of your other predictions we can see that more of you predict
- that we will see a PSP2 than those who picked that there will not a new PSP.
- that Splinter Cell: Conviction will be coming to PS3 than think MGS:Rising will be a 360 timed-exclusive.
- that we will find out PSN Premium includes cross-game chat and background downloading than it will be launched during E3.

What you Think Will Not Happen

Here are the options none of you voted for.  I am a little disappointed that nobody thinks there will be a Guitar Hero: Air Guitar game as with Natal/Wave expected to be Microsoft’s big push at this E3 that seems to me like an obvious title especially with the way that Guitar Hero and Rock Band seem to finally be differentiating themselves, with GH becoming more of a game again and RB becoming a simulation that you can ‘play’ with real instruments.  And I still suspect that Dead or Alive will be subject to the 3D treatment with the depth of field being exaggerated whenever the characters turn to face the camera.  Though admittedly neither of them made it into my 12 picks either.

  • 17. The new PS3 XMB turns out to be just a streamlined in-game XMB.
  • 38. Deal announced with MTV to bring original programming onto the PSN Video Store.

  • 55. Xbox portable console announced.
  • 58. The next non-Bungie Halo title is revealed.
  • 60. New Project Natal game ‘Guitar Hero: Air Guitar’ announced.
  • 69. Dead or Alive (Dead or Alive 3DD?) (Running in 3D)
  • 70. Ninja Gaiden Sigma 3 (that sixaxis “bounce” combined with 3D equals killer app?) (Running in 3D)
  • 71. Gears of War 3 (Running in 3D)
  • 73. Need for Speed (: Whatever) (Running in 3D)
  • 74. Madden NFL 11 (Running in 3D)

Obligatory Graph

If you have read many of my posts you will have noticed that they are not normally complete without at least one graph, so here it is.  :)

And finally, to respond to some of your emails all in one go…  I know PixelJunk 2.1 is unlikely yogh_wayne, but I can hope can’t I, I’m very keen to see what Q-Games can come up with when they switch from 2D to 3D.  Don’t worry Reedus, your entry’s included.  To those of you who said you enjoyed last year’s and were glad to see E3 Bingo back (including BrendanCalls, Jas-n, clank250 and Aitrus) thank you, it’s always nice to hear what we do is appreciated.  Oh, and bunimomike, it seems I didn’t ‘lose’ your entry after all.  :)

  1. I’m really looking forward to E3, and I know this will be a laugh!
The only one from the top 12 that I seriously doubt will happen is 68, its just too soon I think.

  2. I’ll probably get most of them wrong, hopefully there will be more correct ones than last year :)

Does anyone have a link to when all the major press conferences are (Sony, EA etc)? Also will TSA have a live blog thing again like last year, I wasn’t able to watch a stream of the conference, but it was good to be able to check the live blog every 15 mins or so to see what was happening?

  3. I know everyone wants Kevin Butler to be on stage and thinks it will be amazing, but I think it might ruin the whole appeal of him if that happens. What makes him funny is the funny writing and the actor’s portrayal of Butler.

I’m hoping that if they do bring him out, he’s just as good in an uncontrolled and unedited environment on stage (i.e. he doesn’t bomb) and there’s no ‘awkwardness’ like there usually is on the E3 stages with the terrible jokes and nervousness from the presenters.

    • If I were a betting man, I’d stake my money that there would be a pre-recorded video of him on a beach or some such that they show on the big screen.

      • Yeah I think that would be awesome.

    • Who judges whether he is awesome or not?If he turns up but is not awesome do people still get a point?

  4. To this day I’m still puzzled as to why people think any premium PSN would include background downloads, it’s entirely a software issue, as opposed to a costly service issue. If anything it’s better to be widely available as they can release patches at off peak times and smooth out the frantic patch downloads that happen on big titles. All of the other things like save game storage, subscriptions for PSN games and things like that would be a value-added service.

  5. Mass Effect 1 & 2 pack.
New firmware cross game chat is NOT PSN Premium.
    Splinter Cell PS3?
    Xbox new console.
HD remakes GoW style – MGS, GT, GTA (Please).

  6. Personally I’m really looking forward to E3.
But I expected MS3, R3, I2, LBP2 as there main games. Just R3 isn’t announced, so a bit of a concern there. Do they have sth. big to reveal?
so I’m watching forward to Resistance 3 and I hope they will show sth. Starhawk(ish).

I do think they going to talk PSN+ or premium and maybe they launch it coming week. Also want to see some new FW update that really brings sth. new and fresh to the PS3. The last FW update is a while back (September 09).

    So SONY MAKE.MY.DAY

  7. Oops, when i entered the Bingo, i thought you would just pick the person with the ‘fullest house’ – i didn’t realise there would be in depth statistical analysis – i hope my decison to choose the items i thought would not be shown hasn’t contaminated the results :)

  8. Aww damn, I was one of those guys who predicted Motorstorm 3 will make its debut at E3.

    • And InFamous 2. That was quite a lot of people.

      • We may know inFamous 2 is coming (mainly due to the GameInformer scans) but it hasn’t yet had it’s official Sony announcement/début has it?

  9. when did England lose 3-0 to Japan?

  10. Yay! Smack-talk and I got my entry in there. Losers! Hahahha! *is now laughing at computer*

I jest! Top stuff, top graphs. What an amazing spread of choice, especially when you get down to the lesser voted items. Some very optimistic options but that’s great as E3 is sure to turn up a couple of hidden gems.
