GameStop appear to have missed the memo about not revealing the price of Microsoft’s new toy, posting up deals for the new way for families to connect at a whopping price of $149.99. Bundles are also available including an Elite package for $399.99.
This is not the first time we’ve got wind of this particular figure for the new doohickey, but this does appear to be the first piece of hard evidence that Microsoft are prepared to risk alienating give-a-go consumers with a high pricing point for the device.
The US $149.99 price tag translates into roughly £99.99 (a price we’re also hearing rumours of). A euro price is assumed to be roughly €129.99.

Not to bad for a whole multiplayer control system if you already own a 360, but it’s not great for me who would have to buy a 360 as well.
£99 will probably be a lot cheaper than the alternative though.

Isn’t the alternative Move? Which is rumoured at £40? So two of them would be £80? Which is cheaper?
Or have I missed your point?
Is this too many questions?
Should I stop?

CC is ultra-360 fanboy, just read all his comments related to any “groundbreaking” MS news ;)

4 moves & 2 subs will be £150-£180 surely?
Sure you could just use one Move each but why go to the trouble and only have half the experience

I was thinking about two people, rather than 4. Will Kinect support 4 at once then (sorry I’ve not watched any footage so may have missed if it has been shown)

But cc’s point is that support two-player gaming in all the titles we have so far seen you would need 4 Moves and 2 Subs. Some titles have each player holding two Moves, some have each player holding a Move and a Sub. That’s a lot of waggle-sticks to buy.

Kinect will be priced in UK more likely around 129.99 price mark (dollar is strong nowadays and pound is weak). And even if it’s 99, I’m sure there’ll be bundles of Move+sub for 49,99-59,99, which makes it more attractive to a _single_ customer.
As for multiplayer, 2 bundles of above will surely be more than enough for any household. Most of these games will allow you to pass on the controller(s) as you play anyway. There’s really no need for 6 sticks in the house.
And of course, hardware is not everything here, games, games. A really weak spot on Kinect’s map at the moment.

I think that it’s a really bad price simply because it’s more expensive than ONE of Sony’s controllers.
I’m a consumer. I see something for 99 pounds, or I see something for 40 pounds. If I’m by myself (a lot of gamers will be), I’ll pick up the move as it’s WAY cheaper. If I’m in a couple (some gamers are), they’ll consider picking up 2 of the move controllers as it’s also cheaper. If I’m a part of 4 (I think this is quite rare), I’d consider Natal. But then, I would also look kinda dumb. Also by this stage, I think I would have a Wii, and to be honest a lot of these games are pretty much Wii games so I don’t see why i would actually consider Natal at all.
Move is looking pretty damn good IF it can retail at the 40 pound price mark.

And the games are only abouy £5. There’s everything you’d want. EyeToy Sports, EyeToy Play, EyeToy Anti-Grav (hover board game), EyeToy Kinectic Combat (excerise type game) as well as a Disney EyeToy game (Disney Move) for your really young kids.
There’s are EyeToy Play 1,2 & 3 covering loads of games from beating up ninja’s to washing windows. Plus there are still plenty areas covered with games like EyeToy Groove and Sega SuperStars as well as online features like EyeToy Chat.
MS simply didn’t really bring anything new last night. They needed to show Kinect was more than just an upgraded EyeToy, but they couldn’t.
I can’t believe how long they spent showing someone looking at a car using Kinect.

Nearly forgot the best eyetoy game, EyeToy Lemmings. Nothing better than flicking a lemming across the screen.

Knowing how consoles etc. are always more over here I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s nearer £150.

There might actually be 2 prices for kinect.
Surely they’ll sell it w/o the psu for people who buy the new xbox model, ESP those who’ll be buying it as soon as it’s available next month

If we assume three games cost $50 each, and translate this into Norwegian game prices, this thing will be more around 190£ or $280… yay, glad i’m buying the Playstation Move

After the MS presentation, one of their guys brought a Kinect up to the presenter, along with his free new Xbox 360. I was absolutely gobsmacked at the sheer size of the Kinect device… it was nearly as big as the console.

But on the flip side take a look at the shots of a 360 controller next to a Kinect, then the Kinect doesn’t look so big. The new 360 fits inside the old one, at least if we believe MS, so Kinect is likely smaller than you’re thinking.

Joystiq had a good picture showing it in context. It really doesn’t seem that big.

It would be nice to know how many ‘core’ gamers like to have Kinect.
Perhaps MS is showing some new content on wednesday but the price is too high for an impulse buy.
Sony will have an advantage in that point because impulse buyers don’t calculate how much are all things together but only see one price tag.

As a one-shot deal (price) it’s pricey. God knows Microsoft made the 360 appear cheap but asking you to stump up for wireless, controller chargers (I think?), separately. Move will appear the more cost-friendly solution and is definitely so if you’re just dipping your toes in to try something out. (eg. 1 x Move, 1 x Sub, 1 x camera). Also, most people gaming will be 2 players at a time as we were chatting about earlier. 4 x players is genuinely rare.
Finally, I’m still up for both devices being huge successes. I just hope that whatever does well, deserves it. Then again, this world of ours is rarely fair.
