I’ve just sat through one of the dullest E3 press conferences I’ve ever witnessed, but the singular highlight, the ‘reveal’ of the new Xbox 360 design, was just about worth it.
Somehow, and I’ve no idea how, Microsoft had managed to keep the new design completely secret (well, until last night, at least) and, as if by magic, they’re shipping the new model this week.
The pricing model remains the same – that is, the new design costs the same as the old – but the machine now comes with a 250 GB hard disk and built in ‘N’ wi-fi, which is actually pretty good.
It’s better looking that we thought, too.
The biggest (some might say only) round of applause was saved for the announcement that everyone in the audience would get a free Xbox that very evening. People stood up to clap. I cried.

MS trying to buy the audience with a free 360 was a new low for them.

Gears, Halo, Natal/Kinect, C.O.D., Metal Gear Rising. Nothing new to show from last year apart from a new 360 that might not break as much as the previous models. It’s sad how Microsoft is spoon feeding the same old crap to the “Gamers” whilst making one of the biggest gambles on Kinect. This car crash is fun to watch. I’m glad Sony aren’t going whole hog into move, and are still focusing on their core audience. The menu navigation with Kinect was a joke. Who can honestly be arsed pissing about waving their arms about just to change the TV channel?

How is it any lower than a game publisher giving out review copies of the game?

That was the most boring conference I’ve ever seen. Almost all of it was about the Wii rip off that is Kinect. The start was good with Gears 3 and Rising though.

Looks fantastic, almost the perfect secret.
Shame it doesn’t do Blu-ray movie playback else it would certainly be the ultimate entertainment machine if it did

My view on Microsoft has gone down after that press conference, Kinect looked awful in my opinion so they had to buy the people in the audience a new xbox to make up for it….

That was horrible, dude.
I guessed that the Xbox on the table would be a shell and they would reveal all later in the show… at 7 o’clock, so that ‘surprise’ was ruined for me.

Boring, uninspired drivel.
Also I like the way they’re going to charge the same for both the new and old consoles. Clever, that.

Aaron greenberg was talking to geoff keighley after the event and said, the Arcade will be reduced to $149 and the Elite reduced to $249, why they never said that in the conference is beyond me!

i was a little disappointed by the conference, new 360 looks pretty good (finally! built in wifi!) but i have a feeling Sony and Nintendo won’t need to do much to top it. Kinect wasn’t too bad, it will KILL pure gaming as we know it (Wii didn’t do enough to kill it, it still had a controller)also… WHY DOES THE TIME DIFFERENCE HAVE TO SCREW ME OVER FOR SONY’S? IT’S AT 2.00AM HERE!

Poor conference – and the lack of applause at the end was embarrassing!
What they didn’t say at the conference is the real reason for the new Xbox – if you play Kinect on an ‘old’ Xbox it needs a separate power cable to be connected, whereas if you use the new Xbox it’s just plug and play…

Microsoft put on a great show for casual gamers, trouble is casual gamers aren’t the ones likely to attend an E3 event.
