In what has to be called the most surprising part of E3 this year, Gabe Newell took to the stage for Sony’s press event. He ate some humble pie for the comments he has made about the PS3 and then proceeded to announce that Portal 2 would be coming to Sony’s machine, it would be the “best version” and it would feature Steam elements.
So, is that Steam on PS3? Seems like a stretch to me but that’s how it came across.
This is a huge announcement from Valve, one of the PS3′s most outspoken critics until recently. We’ll keep you up to speed as things progress.

I couldn’t believe it when Gabe Newell walked out onto the stage. Especially when he stated that the best version would be on PS3.

you have a gun that fires portals, a red one and a blue one, they’re connected kinda like wormholes, you go in one and come out the other, you can even see through them, leads to some really freaky views when you look at yourself through one of the portals and if that portal is at an angle.
it also has a tractor beam type function as well.
you have to solve puzzles in a number of levels using the abilities the gun has.
the concept takes some getting used to, the best way to get the what the game is about is to play it.
it’s a great game, though i have yet to finish it, got stuck on some of the later levels.

this should give you a clue.

I finished it a couple of years ago, awesome game, the last couple levels when it all goes ‘wtf’ is just brilliant. Seriously, everyone should play this game to completion… unless you aren’t logically minded. Some lateral thinking is required but its not too taxing.

Portal is one of the best puzzle games ever, with brilliant humour and two of the greatest game characters ever (GLaDOS and the Weighted Companion Cube). Here’s a nice trailer including some gameplay:

You should definitely play the first part :)

Definitely the surprise of this years conferences, I was disappointed that EA didn’t announce Mass Effect for PS3. But I never expected to see Gabe Newell grovelling an apology on the Sony stage! Portal 2 + Steam + best version = all is forgiven Mr Newell!
I actually joked in the comments here yesterday about hell freezing over when Gabe Newell comes out on stage – can’t believe it actually happened!

“Hey maybe even hell will freeze over and Gabe Newell will walk out and announce Portal 2 has been delayed because it’s coming to PS3 in 3D with exclusive Move features!!! Now that would be a show stealing surprise…”
I should get a job as one of those Game Industry Analysts!!! lol

So, uh, he actually did admit he was wrong? As much as I still may not like him, it’s good of him to do that.

I like to imagine him doing it with a little red dot on the back of his head from the sniper rifle Kevin Butler had trained on him!
Mark my words this is all KB’s doing – the man’s a legend, who couldn’t support PS3 after his speech!!!

No mention of L4D etc so I’m guessing Valve are taking it slow with the PS3.
