So it’s Friday and the week of sheer madness that is E3 is drawing to a close. It may be a little sad that there’ll be no announcements until Gamescom comes around, but it’ll be nice to get back to normal for a while. Anyway with all the things that have happened this week, the question is simply ‘what did you enjoy?’. This book ends nicely with Monday’s discussion on predictions. Why don’t you take a second to go back and look at what you thought was coming?
Right back from reading the past? Good, lets move on. Looking back at what I thought was going to happen it seems I should be fairly disappointed by Microsoft’s conference, and I was really. Whilst Kinect does look sort of cool, we didn’t see anything new after the Kinect only event and there certainly wasn’t anything really targeted at ‘core’ gamers. I was spot on with Halo: Reach and Gears of War 3, although those were pretty much a lock. Nothing cool and new like Shadow Complex, although we did get the 360 redesign. That was probably the least disappointing part of the event, and I do think it looks pretty cool.
Sony? Well we saw a lot of 3D, but far less GT5 than I thought we would. Maybe it’s because GT5 pretty much sells itself at this point, but it did seem odd that it wasn’t demoed. They did have an absolutely fantastic conference, with some big surprises that none of us saw coming. Perhaps the only real disappointment is the missing of titles like AGENT and The Last Guardian, but the event went well overall.
Finally Nintendo. Well I wasn’t expecting much, and they hugely over performed. The 3DS alone looked brilliant, but showing off new iterations of Zelda, Kirby, Goldeneye and Donkey Kong Country in one show was absolutely brilliant. They’ve certainly beaten away the disappointment of their recent conferences, and they do seem to be shifting their target to ‘core’ gamers again, something that’s bound to re-enforce their already strong position.
As for the show floor all I really wanted to see was Arkham Asylum 2, and we don’t seem to have seen any footage from the Batman title crop up yet. In fact I’d say this year has seen less show floor videos than we normally get coming out of the conference, and aside from what I’ve heard of Mortal Kombat there hasn’t been that much outside of the press events that has excited me.
One final shout out for the week goes to Ubisoft for putting on the weirdest, most insane press conference that I’ve ever seen. If it wasn’t for the reports confirming what I saw I’d be pretty convinced it was some kind of weird fever dream, it certainly felt like it. I have absolutely no idea why people were playing laser tag or why people were dancing to Michael Jackson, even though it’s 4 day later.
So what did you think of the big show? What did you enjoy and what bored you? How were the press conferences for you? Let it all out.

No Arkham makes Scarecrow a sad boy.
Sony still didn’t sell Move to me, Microsoft put me off Kinect altogether, I have no interest in Nintendo. Still a GT5 release date was nice, and I’m a lot more excited about Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood after seeing it in action. I think EA put on the best show overall. Criterion can do no wrong as far as I’m concerned, best looking NFS game in years. I guess the only real megaton we got this year was Portal 2.

Overall, pretty good. Though it’s meant I’ve not gamed all week. I enjoyed Sony’s conference for the entertainment courtesy of K.B. and Gabe. Though Nintendo’s was my gaming highlight. When I volunteered to write it up, I certainly wasn’t expecting that much gaming goodness. I never would have expected that when E3 was all said and done that my list of gaming must-buys would be topped by two Wii games, Kirby and Epic Mickey. MS’ conference was poor, though I do like the new 360 even if it looks like a frakkin’ toaster.

I think Nintendo did a very good job of having something for a wide range of gamers. They really impressed me.

I can see why a lot of people like what Nintendo were showing but non of that interested me as. Never been a Zelda or Kirby fan and they did little to change that.
There are too many unanswered questions about the 3DS for me to get excited about that one yet.
No PSP2 as I expected. Suprised by the foucs on multiformat titles from Sony but there was some very good exclusive content. It was shame to not see the likes of Last Guardian, Horizon, Resistance 3, new Ratchet & Clank, Uncharted 3 etc… Gabe’ apperance was certainly the biggest shock.
The stand out game for me was 3rd Birthday on the PSP. Been after this for a long time as it’s look great. Dead Space also stood out.
MS were worse than I expected. I wasn’t expecting much from Kinect but it was even worse than that. The one big announcement from them was Kingdoms but with so little shown I have no idea if it’s going to be good or not.

I’m so glad it’s over. All the pre-expo rumours and the sheer amount of content to absorb borders on dangerous.
I do disagree with this point though:
“They’ve certainly beaten away the disappointment of their recent conferences.”
As great as Ninty’s conference was this year, it will take a lot more than one good showing to remove the memory of how much time I lost watching the last two years.

Oh I didn’t mean people have forgotten them, I meant it more at how they’ve beaten away the failings internally, they finally realised what wasn’t working and fixed it. Hell, no Cammie!

Nintendo was definitely the highlight, some amazing tech and some brilliant games.

Nintendo and EA conference blew me away. They made me want MMA and Madden, even though I don’t understand the actual sports.

I think overall this year’s E3 has been brilliant, best one I’ve seen for sure. There’s so much to take in though it’s incredible, I’m still trying to catch up on previews and trailers now.
Highlights for me though have to be Kevin Butler, Gabe and Portal 2, the Move (especially “Sorcery”) looking promising, and Dead Space 2. And they’re just the very top things that impressed me.
I think Medal of Honor looks great, as does Need For Speed, Infamous 2, Killzone 3 and MGS Rising. Not to mention the 3DS (Ocarina of Time FTW!) and Epic Mickey.
Overall, brilliant show (except Microsoft :P) and I’m looking forward to catching up on everything I’ve missed and of course, next year’s show!

Sony won it for me but basically because I’ve never taken to Nintendo’s choice of gaming in all my life. Weird. No distaste or hatred from them. Just pure ambivalence. Anyway, it was a strong showing from Sony and I’m guessing the MS follow-up meetings are quite testy right now.

Can we really say that the Nintendo show was that good?
We all know that the 3DS was coming same es Move and Kinect from Sony and MS.
The new Zelda game was only a question of time but no real suprise.
Golden Eye and Twisted Metal suprised but i thought “they are all liers”.
Kirbey, Donkey Kong and Sorcery were the Highlights but i can’t say that these were smashing hits.
Funniest press conference did Sony so both others were lame out of my sight.
