Nothing about Kinect‘s recent showing at E3 has convinced me that Microsoft’s motion controller will be of any interest to me personally, but that hasn’t stopped the Big M thinking it’s the best thing since sliced van.

Regardless, a memo leaked (and subsequently picked up by Kotaku) shows that Microsoft will be bundling the device formerly known as Natal with the newly designed Xbox 360s once the thing is ready for public consumption.

Earlier in the week US retailer Gamespot had the bundles listed as $299 for the Arcade bundle, and an Elite bundle for $399, although the leaked memo also states that a $199 version of the 360 will be available “this fall”.

Competitive pricing indeed.

  1. Wow 200 dollars for a 360? They can’t make any money from that at all.

    • I’m wondering if they are tiering the new ‘slims’ much like they did with the original 360. Sort of like their core, premium and elite system.
Also, I have no idea how much the ‘Slims’ will cost to make, but I have to agree $200 is dirt cheap and will be a real threat to Sony.

      • Well that means Sony will have to lift their game, and lower prices to compete. Hopefully bundles from Sony will also be from $200 and up…but I doubt.

    • They certainly won’t make it in software sales; I’ve been trying to justify buying a 360 for a while (the wait for GT5 being the main reason), but no matter what, I can’t find enough titles in their software lineup to make the expenditure worthwhile – even with the lowered hardware price, the games just aren’t there.

    • They have been 200$ for a long time here in the States.

      • Do they advertise that or is it retailer discounting?

  2. “best thing since sliced van” Nice one lol.

$199 is a great price but will that include a hard drive and wifi? I wonder how much the new proprietry slot-in drives will be?

  3. Do you think if you’re a casual gamer that you’re more casual about HD and thus more casual about the whole world of hardware. I wonder how many Wii fans (who don’t have a 360 or PS3) will actually jump ship.

    • Good point although there will no doubt be a huge marketing push for Move and Kinect and it’ll be interesting to see who is tempted. With some pretty good games on the way for Wii (Kirby, DKC, Goldeneye) many might choose to stay with Wii. ( Just like many of us chose to stay with PS2 when xbox 360 was launched)
I’m wondering out of those Wii owners who would be tempted to ‘upgrade’, will they choose the familiarity of the Move controller or the controller-free Kinect?
It’s going to be an interesting ‘battle’ for sure..

  4. Oi microsoft does my face look bovered though

  5. Anyone else thought “Big M” meant McDonalds?

  6. I might buy a X360 for 200$ (120£?)just to play Alan Wake…
One more thing, when you said “Earlier in the week US retailer Gamespot(…)” you meant Gamestop, right? Please correct me if I’m wrong but, as far as I’m aware, gamespot is a gaming site.
