Regular readers to TheSixthAxis will know that Firmware 3.40 has been coming for some time, but exactly when is currently up in the air, with bets edged squarely between tonight and next Tuesday. Fancy taking a punt?
Well, you might meet Sony down at the bookies, with the American press release saying it’s due today, on the 22nd, but the Asian site claiming the 29th, despite an earlier cached version of the latter also suggesting the 22nd for the date.
Original press release:
PlayStation users can purchase PlayStation Plus membership through PlayStation Store on PS3 only. Users need to install PS3 system software version 3.40, which will be released on June 22nd, to enjoy PlayStation Plus.
Version seen on the Hong Kong site:
PlayStation users can purchase PlayStation Plus membership through PlayStation Store on PS3 only. Users need to install PS3 system software version 3.40, which will be released on June 29th, to enjoy PlayStation Plus.
PlayStation Plus, which is the main (and probably sole) reason for Firmware 3.40, goes live on the 29th, so it doesn’t make much sense for the system software update to go live before then, but we’ll wait and see what happens tonight.

TSA should stop hiding banned members’ comments and instead just put a flashing sign next to their username that says “< DOUCHE".

Only through PS store you say; seems i’m gonna have to get prepared for it and buy a €50,- card. Is it certain it’s only possible through Store?

So you could get the subscription paid via a PSN card? That’s cool, as I don’t put my credit card info in the PSN.

Well it’s like using a credit card to shop…it gives you the feeling that you have tons of money =) I only use it to order stuff from ebay.

Well I must say, I hate Firmware updates! With my crappy connection it takes forever to download =(

I don’t think the download will be that big really.

Firmware updates are always the same size mate. You’re essentially downloading the whole lot again with every update. (I think that’s right anyway) = )

If the firmware is only for PS+, I hope it’s optional.
I’m not going for it at the moment so it’s a waste of time and bandwidth for me to get 3.40 when it’s up.
