Regular readers to TheSixthAxis will know that Firmware 3.40 has been coming for some time, but exactly when is currently up in the air, with bets edged squarely between tonight and next Tuesday. Fancy taking a punt?
Well, you might meet Sony down at the bookies, with the American press release saying it’s due today, on the 22nd, but the Asian site claiming the 29th, despite an earlier cached version of the latter also suggesting the 22nd for the date.
Original press release:
PlayStation users can purchase PlayStation Plus membership through PlayStation Store on PS3 only. Users need to install PS3 system software version 3.40, which will be released on June 22nd, to enjoy PlayStation Plus.
Version seen on the Hong Kong site:
PlayStation users can purchase PlayStation Plus membership through PlayStation Store on PS3 only. Users need to install PS3 system software version 3.40, which will be released on June 29th, to enjoy PlayStation Plus.
PlayStation Plus, which is the main (and probably sole) reason for Firmware 3.40, goes live on the 29th, so it doesn’t make much sense for the system software update to go live before then, but we’ll wait and see what happens tonight.
