What happens when a key composer of an accalimed game franchise ups and leaves? A man whose dulcet and signature melodies have become synomymous with one of the scariest game series of all time? Why, you hire another renowned musician well-respected in the “chilling” community.
Check out the new Silent Hill trailer below featuring the different (yet eerily familiar) strains of Dexter’s own Daniel Licht. Sure, it may not be the mandolin moodiness of previous Silent Hill sound-man extraordinaire Akira Yamaoka (now of Grasshopper Manufacture after leaving Konami in 2009), but we think the producers of the game have found a fitting replacement in Licht – a composer known for his haunting dirges on the popular serial-killer-starring TV show.
Not much is actually known about Silent Hill 8 (or, if we’re to go by the title card, simply now Silent Hill) other than the fact that it is being made by the Czech Republic’s Vatra Games. From what’s on display here, we’re hoping a Move support announcement is only a matter of time, the mechanic of using a torch to shed some light on the dark corners of the infamous and doomed town a feature that worked exceptionally well in Wii outing Silent Hill: Shattered Memories. We reckon darting the light source around an unknown room could really add an extra element of fear here.

That looks like it could actually be okay. Seems to have taken a few pointers about focusing on atmosphere from Shattered Memories if the brief gameplay bits in the trailer are anything to by, but it’s how the combat handles that is going to make or break how much people take to this game, seeing as Homecoming was basically just a stream of godawful fights and little else.

They should have left it alone after The Room was released.. or if they insisted on making more games they should have never given it to the yanks. Akira is the embodiment of Silent Hill. Its like taking Hideo away from Metal Gear Solid games. Just NO!

Completely 100% agree. The Room was still a little different from the rest, but it was fun. The moment the series was taken away from the hands of Japanese, it died.

Wait, WHAT?! Silent Hill is not Silent Hill without Akira. Not that his last few soundtracks have done anything to help the shambles the series has seen lately, but still.

Am I the only one who thinks it does look good? I really like the soundtrack and despite being quite difrent from the previous ones, I belive it suits the game more or less (yes, even when it got way too Dexter-y after the man asked “first time visitor, huh”, at which point I was expecting someone to squash a mosquito and then smile). It seems to be, at least in my opinion, a scary Alan Wake (And therefore I will not buy because I hate scary things, I can only stand things with a bit of suspense).
P.S.: Sorry for asking but is there a diference between torch and flashlight?

Nevermind, I just realised “torch” is “flashlight” outside of NA.

Played some of the original PS2 games but control scheme was always something I struggled with.
