We’ve known Heavy Rain developers Quantic Dream were giving up on DLC for the game since E3, instead opting to spend their remaining time with the innovative but flawed adventure by building in Move support. But it appears studio head David Cage is already eyeing up what’s next for the team now its free from the constraints of Heavy Rain.
“Most of the team currently works on the next generation of technology and future concepts,” Cage told Eurogamer. “We plan to significantly improve the technology compared to Heavy Rain, continue to take risks and explore new grounds.
“Many people wondered why we were not ‘milking the cow’ after the success of Heavy Rain – why we were not creating a sequel for next Christmas. It may sound weird from the outside, but this is really not how I see my company. We genuinely try to be pioneers for this medium and discover new possibilities, which means taking more risks and not always giving people what they expect.”
Cage said he needs the “thrill” of a new idea, the need to fight and the need to “feel the danger”, which is presumably why he’s working on a new game called Horizon. Except, according to him, he’s not. “I don’t know where this information comes from,” he said, “but there is no project called Horizon featuring a couple in a science-fiction world currently in development at Quantic Dream.”
Oh. Probably a code name then.

I like that they they’re doing something else but they’ve had months to come up with the dlc we were as much as promised. I could have traded my game for 30 quid when I was done and now I lose out. Nice one Cage. It’s actually made me angry even more than Kotick did when he said MW2 was gonna be £55

“as much as promised”? Did they allude to something or give concrete information?. I know I’m splitting hairs here. It’s a shame current fans of the game feel let down and also that the developers aren’t large enough to divide into two teams. One to look after the current game and one to dive into R&D for the next title.

yup, they basically confirmed that there would be an episode for each main character. cant find the initial source though. and apart from that, if I had known there would be no other dlc I wouldn’t have spent the extra couple of quid to get the special edition.
but yea, they should have a bigger team to do both…silly anyway, they will make zero money on making the free move addition but they would make money on dlc. fooling themselves.

Ah, that’s a bit crap, eh?
Regarding Move support. Agreed. Can’t see how that’s going to return any decent money but if it’s to support Move/Sony with “proper games” being Move compatible then fair enough. Just smarts a little for people like yourself.

As far as I was concerned, the fact that the “first” piece of “DLC” was the game’s original playable demo(And really, would have been a lot more effective a playable demo if released prior to the game as such to the public) was all the confirmation I needed that there wouldn;t be any further ‘episodes’ released, and I don’t recall any real details ever being mentioned about there being more other than Cage saying they had ‘plans’. I don’t care really, seeing as the game was pretty self contained, any further additions would have been pretty redundant story wise, and it isn’t like it was a gameplay masterclass of a title, is it?
I’m happy to see the guy get started on something new so long as it doesn’t take so long to produce this time.

Whats the point having this game now? …wanted dlc :/ Was thinking that maybe they didn’t even have anything planned for dlc in the first place, just that first episode of madison, that was already done before the game was released, he screwed us. still was a a alright game though

I was impressed with David Cage’s studio Quantic few years ago when I played Farenheight on the PC. He was doing stuff then was groundbreaking and with Heavy Rain, he brought a new stylised game to the consoles.
He is talented for sure, and I look forward to seeing what he comes out with post Heavy Rain.
