12We all nodded sardonically when Treyarch’s Josh Olin came out and claimed that Call of Duty: Black Ops would be the “best Call of Duty ever.” Sure it will. Because games that top the 1 billion dollar sales milestone happen all the time; a benchmark the last and universally accepted “biggest” COD ever, Modern Warfare 2, accomplished with aplomb.
More fools us it seems as, going on preliminary data, preorders for Black Ops are currently ahead of where Modern Warfare 2′s were at a similar time in its respective release calendar.
Coming back down to earth, however, Pacific Crest Securities analyst Evan Wilson believes that, despite the early (pre)lead over its predecessor, Black Ops won’t go on to topple Modern Warfare 2′s staggering 16 million units sold record. Quoting “competition, weaker marketing, and the Infinity Ward situation,” Wilson believes Black Ops will ultimately shift a meagre 12 million copies.
Of course, we’re kidding in suggesting there’s any real correlation between “best” and “biggest.” Best doesn’t necessarily mean “highest sales,” but it is acceptable to think Treyarch are at least keeping one eye on Infinity Ward’s illustrious units sold crown. In the end, only time will tell if more preorders actually equates to monumental sales figures.
Feel free to add your own magic million marker in the comments below. Could Black Ops actually reach the heady sales heights of MW2? We also have our doubts.

I count that peer pressure worse than the meth peer pressure.
Lets not talk about drugs though, there was a big thread on that, it got too big for me to be bothered to read.

I must admit it does look good. I promised never to buy COD again, and was going for Medal of Honour, but based on that terrible beta, I might be heading towards Black ops again. Will have to see nearer the time. I wont be pre ordering though.

Meh, seems im not cool. Not a big fan of MW only got the last one coz it was £26.
I think the stereotypical MW player puts me off their games now. Why do I always get squeaky young teenagers talking BS whenever I played it when the games have an age rating much higher than their obvious maturity level. BLAME THE PARENTS! ;)
Rant over, been dying to say that for a while now. Roll on the fire and pitchforks :)

I loved WaW. Loved it. I played the campaign several times, fully explored the online mode, and of course, still play Nazi Zombies regularly. Treyarch has a very favourable position in my eyes right now. This should be my last CoD game that I buy.

I pre-ordered the last one with They-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named and then it turned out Sainsbury’s n Tescos were doing it for about £25. Therefore I haven’t pre-ordered this one, and will probably pick it up in a supermarket.

I’ve never been a big COD fan (Pitchforks emerge) The thing that puts me off more than most is the stereotype that’s been built up around the games, well that and some of my friends would hold a gun to my head if I bought one.
