Sega will release new games targeted at hardcore gamers over the next two years. Speaking to CVG, Sega’s Western President, Mike Hayes, called out Vanquish as Sega’s 2010 title for the dedicated gamers out there before continuing to reveal the publisher has similar titles planned over the next two years. Two of these titles, spaced out over 2011 and 2012, will be announced this year at some point.
“Vanquish is getting a good response, that’s our big hope for the release later this year to keep us in the 360/PS3 core game slot.
“Then we’ve got two other big games that we’ll be announcing this year for 2011 and 2012. So we’re not going to be overly aggressive – but we’re going to try to have one or two games each year in that segment.”
We’re going to put our necks out and predict that at least one of these titles will be Bayonetta 2. After all, you don’t make one of the seminal action titles of this generation without a follow-up. Of course, Vanquish came out of nowhere, so it’s quite possible we’re about to get at least one new IP from Sega sometime over the next 24 months.
