Last night saw twenty TSA members battle it out in the second Uncharted Treasure Bearer competition. After six hard-fought rounds we had our winner. I’ll hand you over to Teflon who has done a fantastic job of organising and writing up the tournament.
Coming into the back three, we’d already seen some notable names knocked out (not quite) France and Italy style, courtesy of some tough and gruelling encounters within the Elimination and Chain Reaction gametypes (drawn by random). Both typically low scoring affairs and easy to do poorly in, that resulted in some edge of your seat finishes and razor thin margins for being knocked out of the tournament.
The players that progressed, though, were:
Quarter Final – Plunder on The Lost City
This was a fairly even battle with a single capture made by ProjectJay in the 3rd minute. The 1st party put up a strong rear guard action though, stopping the 2nd party from getting any more, turning the game into more of a deathmatch with occasional throws of the Idol one way or the other as the clock counted down to zero. The final score was 1-0 to the 2nd party.
It was clearly quite a close match as it was played with the order of names changing places often during the match (whilst the true scores remained unseen). Though as the dust settles, it’s clear just how close it was across the board. Ryan was on 16 kills, a shade ahead of ProjectJay and Aquastyle were tied for 14 kills each, (after bonus points) but Jay died a handful more times whilst XJTX couldn’t keep up with the rest of his team meaning that ProjectJay and XJTX were eliminated.
Everyone though, was vying for position with at least one other player on their team. Sam and KingHawk separated by a single kill, Teflon and Yogdog likewise, whilst Sambadude and Sebas were level on kills and had just a single death between them.
Semi Final – Turf War on The Train Wreck
In a rather lopsided round, the 2nd party was pretty much in control throughout, generally controlling at least 2 of the control points. The focus instead turned to a nervy hunt for kills and increasingly valuable captures as everyone’s true scores were obscured, and their spot in the final at stake. All the while, self deprecation and strangely Liverpudlian moaning filled the air with worry.
As the final few points rolled in for the 300-164 final score, all hope seemed lost to a few, but the results brought a couple of surprises. Sebas’ lack of kills and captures in this round was his downfall, being a way behind KingHawk and Sambadude who had more kills and more captures respectively. On the other team, Ryan failed to repeat his appearance in the final, as even though he tied for most kills on our team, he had the fewest captures, going out by just a couple of points.
Final – Team Deathmatch on The Ice Cave
After a blistering start, getting the first 3 kills in short order, Teflon dropped off the pace letting Topgearsam and Aquastyle take the joint lead with Yogdog snapping at their heels.
After a few minutes, though, a switch flipped somewhere (around the time of Da-Buckethead’s PM asking how UTB had gone), and the ruthless automaton known as Teflon switched fuel mix and upped the rev count. Briefly he killed the entire opposite team, then a minute later encountering Sam and Samba several times in a row, each time dispatching both before they really knew what hit them (though, no doubt his cackles of delight after each kill made sure they knew afterwards). His 8 kill streak, ended by mutual death with Samba, took just one and a half minutes to unfold and turned what had looked like a hopeless 4 kill deficit into a 4 kill lead.
There was little that anyone else could do to catch up as Teflon carried on to essentially secure the win with minutes to spare as Sam and Aqua’s tight battle for 2nd was briefly joined by KingHawk.
In the final minute Aqua looked like he might have secured 2nd but that was midway through Sam’s own last gasp 5 kill streak. At 49-38, with a final roll of the dice, Sam spots Teflon. Firing wildly, Sam leapt into Teflon’s gun sights and their bullets took one another out simultaneously as he landed ending the match with 10 seconds left on the clock.
The final standings had Teflon clearly in the winner, with a very flattering 22 kills. (Oh wait, that’s me!). Topgearsam was runner up with 19 kills but had his gamble not paid off, Aquastyle was on 18 kills but with fewer deaths and an assist to spare and was very unfortunate to have just been squeezed out at the last. Commiserations to KingHawk, Yogdog and Sambadude who filled out the final three places despite their best efforts.
In a worthy sequel to the first UTB we once again had many twists and turns, some incredibly close calls, and again, a whole lot of fun. Astoundingly, the final saw the losing team in the final score more kills UTB1’s winning trio (39 kills to 38), only a single returning finalist in Yogdog, and a match that ended before time ran out! Oh, and Sambadude repeated Kazamaniac’s feat of making it all the way to the final at a lowly level 18.
I hope that everyone that played enjoyed themselves, no matter how far they made it, and that they’ll all sign up for the third tournament which should be even bigger in scale, if enough people sign up.
Once again a big thank you goes to Teflon for putting in the effort to make this tournament a success. A full write up (no this isn’t it all, he has written more) can be found in the forums. Congratulations to Teflon on the victory and commiserations to the other participants who put up a great fight.

Only I know this, but teflon cheated. He didn’t have Invalid on which was a clear disadvantage for the rest of us.

Lol, I loved the first round, where YD was all “Yeah, guys, he’s not got Invalid on, we’re screwed!”
I really surprised myself with how well I did, I didn’t expect to win…

Yeah it was a close race for 2nd place, we both did well imo. Getting to the final proved to be way harder than I expected.

No worries, thanks for replying quickly so I could fill the space!
Was a really tough break for you going out in Elimination by a single assist! I think I’ve seen that kind of thing happen a few times before :P
