DC Universe Online Trailer Delivers

19

Superheroes have to get back to the future and save Marty!

Published: 16:39, 25/07/2010 by Kovacs.

We hinted at it, but here’s the full devastating five minute display of what happens when a bunch of super-folk go supernova in (what used to be) a city.

One-on-one grudge matches, people getting thrown through buildings, it even has one seriously pissed off Superman who turns up and starts melting people with his eyes. And then, well, we hope you have a hankie handy, because things go a little pear-shaped just before Brainiac turns up.

Play close attention to the epilogue when ole chrome dome himself, Lex Luthor, reveals just what the hell is going on. By the sounds of it, DC Universe Online has just gone all Back to the Future on us. “This is my past but your future.” Ahh, makes sense. Now, where’s my armour-plated codpiece, Alfred? I’ve got to get back .. in … time.

  1. The trailers are obviously meant to intrigue and attract interest. But in this case, its not the game that I long for but a continuation of the damn trailer into a movie!!!!

    • Exactly. The trailers are amazing but the game will never live up to all this hype.

  4. Well that looks brilliant, wonder how much it plays into the game and if the Braniac stuff will be the ultimate end game?

    • i have a theory that whatever luthor does at the end is to create superpowers in thousands of people to have a much larger force available when brainiac invades.
that will i’m guessing be the reason given for all the powered player characters suddenly appearing in the dcu.
and i reckon the brainiac invasion will be a major event later in the life of the game.

      • Yes I thought that as well, however it wouldn’t quite explain tech powered superheroes as has been shown several times with in-game footage. I still think it’s a very likely theory.

      • yeah the tech based powers would be something of an anomoly, unless those people it was their intelligence that was enhanced and they created the tech.
or they could just gloss over it.
much like one dc storyline, it was an alternate universe story, possibly elseworlds, where most of the dc superheroes lost their powers, just the tech based heroes remained unaffected, except hal jordan who’s power ring suddenly stopped working, despite it seemingly being technology, and he became a mopy git.
anyway to cut a long story short the series was written by a writer who had only really done batman books before, and the whole thing was like a love letter to batman.
        anyway, where was i?
the tech based heroes, and villains, could still be a result of what luthor did.
but another thing you have to think about is, that is still luthor, assuming he was telling the truth he still could be thinking about what’s best for himself rather than everybody else.
i do like what they’ve done with luthor for a few years now in that he’s not just the megalomaniacal cartoon villain he was, he seems to believe that superman is a threat to the world, probably more like he believes superman is a threat to his ruling the world, and being who he is he probably believes that if he ruled the world would it would be the best thing for everybody in the world.

  5. Yeah, not representative of gameplay at all but damn if that ain’t one of the prettiest trailers we’ve ever had for a video game! Game doesn’t play too badly at all though, it’s more God of War then World of Warcraft, which is a pleasant surprise. Just a pity that it costs so damn much, with the rumours of a discount or even freeplay for PS+ subscribers squashed in the early hours of this morning by SOE. £40 for the game then £10 per month for a game that has separate servers for PS3 and PC play which will almost certainly mean an empty gameworld on the PS3 platform, a platform which sees most gamers switch games on a monthly basis.

  7. I just hope all people with PSN+ will get a discount on the monthly cost. I’m not even dreaming about having it for free but a half price would get me on.
