Following on from the big rumour that Rockstar are supposedly working on a new Grand Theft Auto game set in Hollywood, the internet is abuzz again today with the discovery of a set of seven job listings by Rockstar North.
The listings include such favourites as “online architect” and “environment artists”, as well as the exciting sounding “physics programmer”. But it is the requirement of “professional experience developing a third-person action game” for the character animator position that is drawing links to a potential new GTA.
Let’s put it this way: it seems pretty inevitable at this stage that Rockstar is working on a new Grand Theft Auto game, and even if not, the revelation that they are developing a “third-person action game” isn’t really that surprising when you consider that every game that has come out of the studio since becoming Rockstar North in the early 2000s has fallen into that category – a trend likely to be continued by Agent, whenever that should appear.

This isn’t exactly newsworthy is it?

It’s newsworthy if you’re interested in it.

I think it’s newsworthy, it shows that they’re not sticking with the old development team, so the game could feel or play very differently compared to IV.
Whether that’s a good thing is just down to personal preference.

I’m pretty sure that they are far into the development of the next GTA game. That would mean that this hiring is for a different game.

If it’s as good as Red Dead Redemption, I’ll gladly buy it

You do know Agent is still being made, right? Why does everyone just seem to ignore it, and assume R*North are hard at work on GTA? I’ll say it again… THE MAIN GTA TEAM ARE WORKING ON AGENT.

They could have two different teams with one working on GTA and one on Agent couldn’t they?

They could have another team on GTA, but it’s not the team we know and love. I’d rather wait until Agent is done, and have the original GTA team back on it.

Same here, fella. I’d be happy for R*North to alternate between GTA titles and “other” games. Whether they’re 3rd person sand-box games or not. You know… a bit of variety to break up the obvious carnage and fun with GTA.
