EA have today officially released the box art for Dead Space 2, the sequel to one of our favourite games this generation. Although a pic was shown off on their Facebook page a while ago, this is the first look at the PS3 and 360 covers in their entirety.
Set for release on 28th january 2011, the title sees the return of engineer Isaac Clarke as he awakens from a coma in “The Sprawl” a massive space city as the lone survivor of an alien infestation, to take on the Necromorphs all over again.
Now before you journey to the The Sprawl, don’t forget to pack your plasma cutter, these Necromorphs aren’t going to dismember themselves, you know?

I like how the darkness of the PS3 branding doesn’t spoil the image, unlike the green swirls on the other

Although I imagine that the PS3 one will have stickers plastered on it saying something along the lines of ‘DS Extraction Free’

It will have exclusive DLC free plastered on it, I think DS: Extraction is just the special edition isn’t it?

I think you’re right cc. But hopefully they’ll only put that on as a removable sticker, or at best if they have an outer card sleeve. For anyone who has AC2: Complete Edition you’ll know what I mean – the game case itself is exactly the same as the normal version, but it has an extra thin card box with all the info about the DLC. Either of those would be a preferable solution for me =] hmm, maybe I care too much about my boxes being all nice and such…

The black PS3 strip looks so much better than the green 360 one it isn’t even funny.
But the box-art isn’t that great to be honest.

Much preferred the floating dismembered limb of the original

I agree – The cover of Dead Space was very clever as it let you know what the game was all about (dismemberment) whilst revealing absolutely nothing!!
Not only that, but it was pretty eye catching too!

does anybody know what the exclusive dlc for dead space 2 will be for ps3.

Don’t know yet, but given the exclusive DLC exists & the price being the same, why would you go without?
Also, if you get the special edition there is a Move powered Dead Space: Extraction included, again exclusive to the PS3

well i much prefer the 360 controller so only extra content that i will actually use will sway me like more single player dlc not multiplayer stuff i wont use.
extraction sounds good though.

No offence intended, but what planet are you from??? I don’t know anyone who prefers the ‘fisher price’ xbox controller to the trusty DS3!!

Sorry, i also intended to ask what it was that you prefer about the 360 controller in my first post as it genuinely took me by surprise.
I just sound rude now!

well now you DO know someone who prefers the 360 controller(apart from on Pro Evo Soccer)
the trouble is im a grown man(despite my punctuation) and need something subtantial to hold on to(no n0b jokes please) and so the 360 controller fits the bill as apose the tiny ps3(suitable for women and children) controller.

Fair enough – Each to their own.
Like i said, i was genuinely interested as for me (& others that i know), the set up of the 360 controller is a tad uncomfortable for prolonged use.
Although i have to admit that i do slightly prefer the triggers on the 360 controller (mainly for shooters) as there is a bit more force behind them compared to the DS3.

I prefer the 360 triggers also and the analogue sticks but ps3 has MILES better d-pad and better face buttons.
ps3 controller makes my hands uncomfortable with prolonged use of the triggers on racers/shooters.

I prefer a DS3, but when it comes to games that use R2 to shoot (STUPID DEVS, THE R1 HAS ALWAYS BEEN THE BUTTON USED TO SHOOT…, sorry for this) I always have to put my trusty gioteck triggers. Sadly, they only last for a couple of months before breaking.

I’m not really a fan of these “Box art” posts in the first place, hence usually avoiding them – but decided to click here today. Why? Because this ‘story’ has been ran already on TheSixthAxis (http://www.thesixthaxis.com/2010/06/04/how-cool-is-dead-space-2s-cover/) – the only difference is we now have a PS3 version, which in my opinion makes it even less news-worthy than the original post was, which in my opinion was already not news-worthy.

Haha good spot. I think the first one is fair enough (some people love new boxart. But I agree with this one being pointless just because the PS3 one is added

Perhaps they overlooked it, or forgot about it..

Yeah i know, and agree
but as mentioned in the post, EA have today officially released the box art for all 3 versions of the game (PC ommitted here because we don’t cover it) and its not a mockup based on the image being trailered on their Facebook page.
News on the periphery of gaming is in the eye of the beholder, I read tons of stuff I don’t think is news which turns out to be really popular, but yeah I agree in the main about box art stories… but be be warned there will be another one for FIFA 11 (if its’ not been done whilst my back was turned)
