School’s out for Summer, sang Alice Cooper, and many of you are likely making the most of it. Judging from our Folding@home team’s performance over the past month many of them must have taken an early holiday and left their PCs and PS3s folding uninterrupted.

After last month’s blip our monthly point total is back on the up slope of its ballistic curve as we smashed our previous record from two months ago by over 100,000 points.  That is another step towards our first million-point month with the new record being 814,239.  Unsurprisingly the 20,265 Work Units that were processed to achieve that score was a new record for us too.

We have certainly come a long way from this time last year when we were ranked a mere 3,326th.  In the last month we have climbed over the sun-dried corpses of three of those teams we had identified as targets, Sony Foster City (home of SCEA), Criterion Games and GTAForums.  Given my earlier PSN-related post it is with a wry smile that I notice SCEE are being beaten by SCEA in the below rankings.

Alternatively if you are just looking for another way to participate in TSA’s community and maybe get your name up on a front page post you are also more than welcome. Just head on over to the Folding@home thread in our forum for all the information and help you might need.

Here for your enjoyment are the graphs of the team’s monthly progress and that of the top ten individual folders.

  1. W00t, in the top 25 folders hehe… well my laptop is broken and my PC is overheating so neither of them have been folding, nor has the PS3 since I repaired its YLoD, that only leaves my two web servers. Not really sure how I got any units folded at all this month :P

    • A vacuum never hurts katy ;) unless its just realy hot where you are.

      • It is really hot, but, what is this ‘vacuum’ you speak of? Is that that thing that other people use to clean their houses?

  2. Can somebody tell me why the music function only plays the default track despite there being over 2000 mp3s on my 80GB HHD?

    • HDD grrr..

    • Do you mean you have to select a track on at a time?

      • Manual selection works, but I tend to prefer using Mood then Recommended (the only option available, the others are blacked out).

      • I don’t know why it’s blocked out… plus if it’s the only one there, why not use the normal selection? I know it’s a bit more awkward, but it does the job.

    • You realise that with 2,000 MP3s to go through it’ll probably play the default “lift music” track several times while it sorts them out into categories? You’ll be able to see if it is still doing that as the HDD light will be going crazy. If the default track is still playing once the HDD light calms down, then I’m out of ideas.

    • I had an i7 I was fortunate enough to get to test on. I doubt that is a performance I will repeat anytime soon (doesn’t mean I won’t try though).

      • oh… so you are/will e down on power soon? this is where I catch up easier, got my i7 clocked at 3.8Ghz, then there’s the other computers and PS3′s I have folding every now and then.

  5. hmmn may have to join this,i used to ages ago when i first got my ps3 but kind of ended up forgetting about it :S

    • Simply just go to “Forums”, “General Chat”, “Folding Home Leaderboard” then just write a comment “I want to join too”.

      • Don’t need to do that, just check out the first post, should tell you all you need to know, simply follow, and then if you need help or want to post you can.

  6. Thanks for the welcome, seemed like a natural progession from my paper-folding days and I like the community spirit. :D

  7. My PS3 will be back folding when it’s fixed this week (hopefully).

  8. YES!!! Made it into the top 10!!!

    • Sorry to make you feel worse, but that’s only 10th for last month only, not overall, so you’re not on the graph yet.

      • Jas-n, why i only have 10 WU on leaderboards?? I have 15 WU, but my computers are broken, so i can’t update even on PS3… :[

      • Simply because…
        SHAKUGAN 2,506 1,255 1,251 10
        (TSA)Shakugan 1,255 502 753 5

Total’s 15, make sure you have everything set to the top name (SHAKUGAN), makes things easier, and more likely to see yourself on the top folders list.

  10. hey guy, not sure whats going on jus finished a unit and it wont upload and now my new unit is gonna take 1day 19hrs to fold =\? help

    • Guy?
If you can sign into your PSN account it’s the folding server’s that are down.
If it didn’t upload and you got a new one you probably didn’t finish it in time, so it expired.
And sometimes the PS3 will download WU’s that take 2 days, but usually you see them take 5 and a half to 6 and a half hours.
      Hopefully that helps you.

      • lol srry guys!!! yh it finished then it tried downloading it but it said it couldnt and said trying again in….1min,3min then 5mins, does it still count as one unit even if it takes so long? i could get 7units in 1day 18hrz.

      • yeah it’s still classed as one, but you do get more points the longer you have to have it running (a 6h one gets 251 points, if it takes longer you will get more, just not sure how much)

Also the server is down so you can’t upload completed ones yet, and can’t download a new one, best to shut off the PS3 and try in the morning.
