News today via the recent Activision financial results call is that the next entry in the Tony Hawk skateboarding franchise, Shred, will also feature snowboarding.
The upcoming game will also support the same skateboard peripheral as last year’s critical failure Tony Hawk: Ride but, tellingly, won’t require it. Following the release of an overwhelmingly negative reaction to Ride, Activision’s Mike Griffith mentioned that the game suffered because “it took longer to optimise the hardware, leaving less time to optimise the software”, so here’s hoping the team can really improve on the game this time round.
So whilst Shaun White is turning his hand to skateboarding this year, Tony Hawk is taking up snowboarding – quite the switcheroo. Tony Hawk: Shred is being developed by Robomodo, published by Activision and is scheduled for a release later this year.

God…
If they just spent more time on making a good skateboarding game rather than releasing one every year with silly features and peripherals no one wanted, people would be a lot happier. I’m not really a skateboarding fan and have never owned a skateboarding game in my life, but I remember having fun playing the older Tony Hawk games with my mate years back.

Its so sad that one of my favourite gaming franchises from my early gaming years has become so crap. The last one I got was Project 8, and I think I’ve played it for about an hour in total.

Screw this crap. Either give the series a serious reboot, or just kill it off completely. I don’t know how it’s even feasible anymore..

Tony Hawks games need to die, it’s embarrassing to admit I liked previous installments after all the new shite games

Surely these still can’t be selling well enough to justify more being made. I haven’t really liked them since Pro Skater 2!

+1 THPS2 was the pinnacle of Tony Hawks, possibly 3 at a push. Since then thay have deteriorated to utter garbage. I’ve got proving ground, had it since I got my PS3 and I CANNOT get rid. No one will buy it on ebay and as it’s R1 no used game shop will buy it either.
Skate on the other hand goes from strength to strength but has an appalling (my opinion) control method.

But the first one of this generation was rubbish, possibly one of the worst games I’ve played in this genre.
