Ubisoft Toronto managing director – Jade Raymond - has revealed her lofty ambition to build five triple-A projects there. Speaking to Develop, she has said that the studio is already working on two “major” triple-A projects – one of which is known to be the next Splinter Cell.
“We want to grow to 800 staff in ten years, we’re on two major projects now, and eventually we’ll be working on five,” she said. I can’t say specifics now, we don’t want to get ahead of ourselves in our first year. But yeah, that’s the plan.”
Raymond has already revealed that the studio’s strategy is to focus on building triple-A projects and nothing else – and that this strategy would naturally tempt developers to join them.
“The biggest draw we have is all the great things about a startup. If developers have ambition to make triple-A projects, and want to have their place in what is a thriving start-up, the Ubisoft Toronto is the place for them.
We have all that great stuff but much less of the risk, because we’re fully backed by Ubisoft and already have veteran staff.”
Ubisoft plans to eventually pump half a billion Canadian dollars into the new Toronto complex, which opened last year.
The local government has also signed a deal with the publisher, which will see a further quarter of a billion Canadian dollars invested over the next ten years, with the belief that this scale of investment will bring jobs, commerce, and help the Toronto region thrive – are you reading this UK government?

Jade Raymond? Isn’t she the producer for Assassins Creed? I think we can assume AC3 will be one of the 5 titles then.

She doesn’t have anything to do with Brotherhood and I can imagine any future titles. Thats Montreal’s franchise. She got bumped up to head of the Toronto after ACII finished IIRC.

Great news. Hopefully we can see this sort of investment come to the UK too although subsidising doesn’t really address the problems of an even-playing field. It just helps in the short-term but someone will ultimately one-up you somewhere else.
