7We know when the cake truck is coming, but how about some new footage of everyone’s favourite spatially manipulating FPS, Portal 2?
Captured at Gamescom, advance warning: the video is over nine minutes long, so we recommend sticking the kettle on first. It’s worth a look though, as what’s on display really gives a good idea of the amazing tomfoolery possible in the highly-anticipated sequel. The water and glass shattering effects alone should be enough to make your afternoon.
You’ll also be able to hear the voice of Stephent Merchant, and get a look at the Propulsion and Repulsion Gels. They do look quite gooey.

Steven Merchant is such a perfect choice. This looks epic, much more open Half-life esque environments now which makes sense. I didn’t watch all of it though, I don’t want to spoil any of the game for myself.

This looks like utter fun. I just fear that it will be too hard to play it with a controller with all the precision and speed that is required to manage the portals. I wonder if my nVidia ION powered eeeBox can handle Portal 2…

Whenever I hear the voice though, I’m just going to picture it coming from his mouth as opposed to the robot thing. Still, it is a million times better than the voice they had at the E3 trailers!

Me too, I’m new to Portal
(I’ve rented The Orange Box twice, but both times the install failed and I couldn’t continue)
And the puzzling involved in the last couple of mins looks like I’d struggle to get into it, the assumed knowledge required to get that cube thing from one side of the room to another looks off-putting

Don’t be put off. The first one is quite tricky in the later levels, but portal does a really great job of building you up to the challenge all through the first few levels. You start really clueless, but by the time you have to pull of the tricky moves, you’re well able. I loved the first one and found it quite hard to even understand what was going on at first, but once I got my head around it, it was a truly incredible experience.
If you have not played through the first one I recommend it. Well worth the time and then you’ll be all trained up and ready for portal 2!
I think it would be a shame to start portal 2 without playing through the first one. It seems to me like Portal 2 is going back down into the belly of the test chambers, and it would not have the same impact if you didn’t go through the test chambers the first time.

The first part was so boring it had me skipping in huge amounts. Although the Portal-paintinator looked funny! :-)

Yeah, I don’t know why they showed that bit. It reminded me of the lengthy ice climb in the big MW2 reveal, completely different obviously, but an odd bit to show before you get to the ‘good stuff’
