Microsoft’s Major Nelson has confirmed that a new Xbox 360 controller is indeed on the way - featuring white with grey buttons and a metallic d-pad. The controller is set to arrive on November 9th 2010 in the US for $64.99, whilst Europe will be getting it some time in February.
As rumoured earlier, the pad will feature a new and improved patented d-pad which can be manipulated and raised for better control by ‘twisting’ it.

$64.99? I guess it almost makes Kinect look cheap

Would have preferred them to stick this new d-pad design on the old controller and phase out the crap design.
I think people are getting far too worked up by the price though. What this article doesn’t say is that it comes with a play and charge kit, which is worth $19.99 anyway. So I’m sure once you take in the actual retail cost rather than the rrp, it’ll look a lot more appealing.

What’s with the lack of color? Did MS forget to print it with color-ink? It looks like it’s developed so that colorblind people wont feel different when looking at it, only… you never do when gaming!

New? All they’ve done is raise the molding on the plastic a little. I don’t see how that’s going to make the d-pad anymore comfortable or user friendly if it’s the still the same basic lump of plastic design at it’s core.

Exactly, you’re really the only person to point this out and I agree entirely. The problem with the existing D-Pad is not that it can’t be raised clear, it’s that it’s a solid chunk of plastic with a pivot point that makes accurate deflection difficult.
If they want to know how to make a D-Pad work perfectly they need to look at Sony’s controller (any of them, including Move!).

The one thing I wish the PS3 controller had was the colour buttons and an LED PS Home button like the 360′s controller and MS have now took away the coloured buttons…..
I think MS are trying to copy Sony too much. PS3 Phat and now the controller.
