Our faithful Greg has written the Folding@home updates since July last year. But now it’s time to fold over a new page as I take over the duties as TSA’s official Folding@home co-ordinator. So from now on I’ll be bringing you the monthly updates as well as some other folding related stuff, such as meet the folder, as well as a competition here and there.

We’ve sorted out an email address so you can contact us on folding related matters. Simply send your email to folding[at]thesixthaxis.com and we’ll do our best to get a reply to you as fast as possible.

Team Info

We’ve still not reached the magical 1,000,000 points per month, but we’re not giving, up, as the now official Folding@home co-ordinator, it’s my job to get more folders on board to help reach milestones like this, so watch this space as I’ll be announcing incentives to get us all folding along for this great cause.

Although we are still slowly moving up the ranks, with the departure of one of our highest folders, Silverx75, we’ve slowed down our pace, but all is not lost as we still have a good selection of folders to make sure we’re not going backwards. However, we could do with more recruits to help us crunch our way higher, and past the likes of Eurogamer and the other sites mentioned below.

If you would like to help us with a small form of world domination head over to the Folding forum thread and follow the simple steps to join the team. If you do however have trouble with setting up, don’t hesitate to get in touch via the same email as above, folding[at]thesixthaxis.com.

Team Radar

Unfortunately we haven’t passed any of the teams we were hoping to, but by next month we should have moved into the top 700 teams and overtaken SCEE’s team, they must be too busy prepping for the Move launch.

New Members

We’ve had nine new faces join the team, most of which are also new faces to the site too, so welcome along and happy folding. If you would like to be part of this list in the future, all you need to do is join the team and complete a single work unit, it’s quite simple really.

Last Month’s Top Folders

It’s good to see that even new folders can get into the top 25 with only a month or less to hand, and we have a third of our new members in the top 25 so congratulations to you if you’re one of the 25, but don’t worry if you’re not, you’ll have your chance to shine in the future.

  1. My launch day PS3 seems to be making less noise again so I’ll be folding again.I’ll set it for auto again. I need to break back into the top 20.

    • How do you set it to Auto?

  2. If only it would fold when using PlayTV, I’d be joining and climbing up the table. I can’t afford to have my phat running just to fold I’m afraid.

  3. Yay, top twenty! Now I just feel like I neglet my Playstation.

    • You’d be higher if you set you PC to fold under the same name, that’s why it doesn’t appear on the new folders, it’s better for all of us if you stick to the one name,
      Thanks

      • Ah, righto, I shall do that immediatly. Thanks for the heads up.

      • My electric usage goes through the roof when I set my PC off folding. Damn HD graphics cards.

  4. I wish I could set my playstation to fold in the background while I’m using it as a media centre…

  5. I would really like to help TSA but I mostly game, watch videos stored on PS3 and go on YouTube. They should just let it run in background so we dont have to go do something else when folding.

  6. I’ve started yelling at my partner to make sure he launches folding when he uses his PC, which is much, much better than mine, so that’s helping me jump up the ranks a bit now :) Hoping to contribute a lot more over the coming months!

    • it can be set up to run automatically, so you don’t need to keep yelling at him… unless you like to of course

      • maybe >:)
He’s not too keen on it auto-starting incase it starts slowing stuff down, and apparently right-clicking the icon and clicking pause is too much like hard work! His PC is fairly good spec though, i5 750 (overclocked to 3.3ghz), nvidia GTX460 gpu, 4GB ram, compared to my 4 year old E6400 dual-core, nvidia GT9800 gpu, and also 4GB ram (though that’s just been upgraded recently!)
I’m hoping I can do folding whilst playing FFXIV and it doesn’t kill my PC haha <3

      • You have just described my PC! The GT9800 is still working well for me too :)

    • So… you’re using him Yahavage??

  9. Welcome to the new TSA team folders.
I just set my PS3 to do one each day while i’m at work. That’s just 5 per week and doesn’t interfere with my personal use of the ps3 for gaming movies etc. A small contribution but that just shows how easy it is to make a difference. :)
