Activision has been busy showing off the Call of Duty: Black Ops multiplayer mode at an event in Los Angeles – and it’s sounding impressive.

First up is a combat training mode, which can be played offline against bots or with friends.  Apparently 30% of COD players never go online; a statistic I can well believe as I’m one of the 30% – if I want to be sassed by a twelve year old I’ll go outside and walk down my local high street.

There is a new ’Create A Class’ feature, where your character model’s appearance changes depending on which Tier 1 perk you choose.

Supply packages found in game will house some very rare weapons such as the ‘death machine’ machine gun and ‘grim reaper’ rocket launcher.  Apparently there’s even a gunship you can fly yourself.

Also new to the game is the introduction of ‘COD Points’ which you earn while you play.  These points can be used to purchase abilities, as well as buying Contracts (time-limited challenges).

An interesting feature is ’Wager Matches’, where you can put Cod Points on the line during a match – but only the top three players get any rewards. A video of this is below.

Customisation also plays a role in the multiplayer, and you can tweak your gun – adding your own camo, iron sight and emblems.

Sounds like Treyarch has been busy!

  3. Looks great, I just hope that they’ve learnt from IW’s mistakes.

  4. I’m one of those who don’t like COD online but that looks like they’ve combined the two most addictive things in the modern world in one game. Gambling and COD online. Genius

  5. My only problem with this is that the game which you have 1 bullet and three lives will HEAVILY encourage camping, like to the extreme..
    >_<

    • These are 6 man lobbies in farely large maps so if everyone camped what would be the point. Enjoy the fist few days when no one know where to go XD.

      • Nowt wrong with camping it up in my opinion. It’s all about risk Vs reward. I personally get a real kick out of a great K/D spread at the end of the match or having X kills and no deaths. Also I think there’s a lot to be said for decent campers on Team Deathmatch as don’t forget it doesn’t really matter a jot if you get 24 kills and 23 deaths as you’re only +100 whereas if you get 7 kills and no death you’re +700. Simple maths really and if you actually want to help your Team on a TD game (rather than running around like a loon) then this can be a viable option. I steadily climb off my soap(mctavish)box now. Thanks and good night!

  6. I stayed up till 5am in UK watching highlights and news from the September 1st event and from what I heard ITS GOING TO BE GREAT. This definitely looks like they built it from the ground up rather than just use a previous game with a new skin. ie WaW w/ MW. Can’t Wait!!!!

  7. I loved MW1 and MW2 though when I reached level 70 that pretty much did it for me. Once I’ve got a decent sniper rifle and the M16 I’m sorted. Wasn’t fussed about Prestiging though did it once on MW1 but really felt once you hit level 70 some of the shine of the game was lost and I lost interest. However I did manage to log in about 100 hours on line on each game so will not argue about value for money.

Wasn’t fussed about WaWar but even though this is Treyarch they’re clearly trying to show the Activision execs ‘Infinity who?’ and that they can become the primo CoD devs (even if the majority of the best ideas are nicked, sorry homaged, from IW). Even though I have my issues with Activision (don’t know why I have these issues I mean they’re a business, not a charity and have shareholders etc so can’t really blame them for trying to take every penny they can) I’ll still probably get this day one (hopefully on the cheap at the Supermarket).
