The community team did our best to get things off to a famous start last week with the MW2 speed run, the results of which you can find here. So, on the back of there being many a PS+ subscribers out there, and plenty others with the game besides, we’re carrying on with a little bit of Wipeout HD.

Through some convoluted thinking, I came upon the idea that we all try and do the Beat Zico trophy, but in reverse. (So, not at all, really). So what you’ll need to do is load up Wipeout HD, go to the Race Box, select Speed Run and the Flash speed class (2 stars). Then using the Piranha racer, set your best time on “Anulpha Pass Reverse” over as many laps as you want.

So that’s: Speed Lap, Flash Speed, Anulpha Pass Reverse, Piranha

Once you finish your session, don’t quit too quickly. Bring up the summary of your Friends Times (hit Square twice from the time sheet), and take a pic. It should look something like this:

Note that the time we’ll be accepting is the one highlighted in turquoise (or red with Fury installed), and with the Piranha team logo next to it. In the case of a tie breaker it will be whoever submitted that time first.

Once you’ve got your screenshot, email it to stefan[at]tsa2.org . Put “Wipeout Time Trial” in the subject line and include your TSA ID and PSN ID in the body of the email. The competition closes Tuesday 14th September at 11:00pm, and the results will be announced in the following days. The winner will receive 100 TSA points and a £5 Amazon gift voucher, 2nd place 75pts, and 3rd place 50pts. This competition is subject to our usual terms and conditions.

Here’s a quick hint to help improve your times. Getting used to doing times on all tracks in higher speed classes makes everything else feel slower. So practice at higher speeds, or ease yourself in with some Zone mode. Also, if you’re feeling the Wipeout groove again, we’ll be having a Wipeout meet on Saturday afternoon at 5PM. Everyone is more than welcome and hopefully we can get at least a full party going.

This competition is organised by Teflon.

  1. I’ll be giving this a go, It’ll be interesting to see just how far off the time the ship is capable of i can get … I’ll guess four and a bit seconds.

  2. I had all but two trophies left to get, though the reverse versions of the original tracks are a bit of a blind spot for me (since the single player campaign never required you to do the reverse versions). Will give it a shot and see how it goes though.

    • Almost exactly the reason why I went with reverse :) My leaderboard is completely devoid of any other entries, so it’s rather unlikely there’ll be existing records by entrants that aren’t beaten.

In fact, there’s a pretty decent chance of the eventual winner of this comp getting the #1 spot on that particular leaderboard!

      • I don’t think anyone will beat the no. 1 time too quickly!

  3. just been having a bash, but i noticed that I don’t get the same screen as above when I end the session, will a picture of my time on the track selector screen be ok?

    • When you end your Speed Run session, hit X to bring up the end screen, then Square twice to switch to Global times then Friends times. As it says just above the photo in the main post.

As long as I can verify a winning time by adding them a friend and checking the leaderboards that way (and your fastest time on this track and speed class is with Piranha), then I’d even /consider/ taking just a simple statement of your time.

A photo of that end friends time screen would be best, though, for my ease and for the results post.

  4. Gotta love having the plat ;)

  5. I will have to give this a go and attempt to defend my title of fastest time trialer.Though i don’t think i have much hope of winning this one as there will be some top competition from the people who have platted the game but i shall still try.

  6. Had a quick blast at this earlier … 29.42 so far, but I can definitely improve.

    • thats still a good time mate

  7. I’m determined to get top 3.. I’ll most likely fail though :( The reverse tracks aren’t my strongest

  8. I would enter but… My PC is still an SD… So if I take a picture no one will understand the times that show up there…

    • I mean mt TV is still SD not PC :\

    • It’s OK, because I can check your time on the leader board in game.
Get the best time you can, and as good a photo you can, and email it in saying what time that photo is supposed to say, and I’ll accept that, and verify it if your in the top 3 once this is all sewn up.

      Deal?

      • Yeah, nice! Let me just re-read this so I don’t make mistakes ;)

  9. I take it we have to use the HD Piranha and not the fury one?

    • 64th in the World so far.

      • 58th and using the normal piranah? I have no chance (70th using fury!)

    • That’s exactly right, and 64th is pretty damn impressive. The “So far…” sounds a little ominous :P

      • 58th now. Starting to progress a little slower! Top 40 may be possible. Maybe

  10. Can i ask…its the normal Piranha we use or can we use the Fury version??? Just wondering as i was thinking of doing a time with the Fury version but want to see if the time would then be valid.

    • Has to be done with the base Wipeout HD normal, non-special Piranha…

Don’t think i can make that any more confusing for you ;)

Normal only, and I’ll be able to check this.

      • Ah damn you, it doesn’t say that above..
