Not the first time we’ve read the acronym PSP with a delicious “2″ appended to get us salivating. We’ve heard it’s a couple of iPhones stuck together and that it has a touch sensitive area behind the screen. We’ve also heard it was at Gamescom and under impenetrable security.
So it’s a little surprising to hear that Mortal Kombat developer Netherrealm Studios are claiming they have one, it’s powerful, and when it comes to Mortal Kombat launching on it, it’s possible. Executive Producer Shaun Himmerick stated to IndustryGamers:
“We’re not launching day one on all consoles like that. We are looking at them; we have a PSP2 in the house and we’re looking at the engine, like what can it support. Always a big thing for us is the performance. We’re running at 60 fps, what can we do and do we have to build all the art assets over. We’re definitely looking at them. PSP2 looks like it’s a pretty powerful machine. We don’t have a 3DS system in house yet, but we’re looking to get one, and we’ll certainly look at what its power is.”
Insert your own “Finish him/it!” or “Get over here!” joke here.

Wait is this a romur or true bc I hope it’s real and powerful somewhat like the iPod touch but better with all the thing the romurs have said. I can’t wait.

You know, those commercials would be so much better if they just took out the “MARCUS! PSP!” at the end. It’s obnoxious. Everything else is funny. They even already have a slogan there: Step your game up, so having him say his name is redundant.
It’s not like KB ends every commercial with a “KEVIN BUTLER! SUCK IT MICROSOFT!”
Completely unnecessary.

Acording to Gabe Newell, Sony introduced him KB as a VP of Sharpening Things. (E3 2010: Sony Press Conference)

Very big trouble – this isn’t a rumour that a friend of a friend saw one in the R&D lab – this is a developer saying it’s real it’s in his office and they’re looking to port Mortal Kombat to it!!!
This sounds like pretty cast iron confirmation – I’m guessing Sony didn’t want it public knowledge until after the busy Christmas period. But it seems certain now that it will be at E3 2011, possibly with a ‘Fall 2011′ release window…

I would easily consider getting a PSP2, aslong as it had a 2nd stick. Oh, and if the price was right, not like what the PSPgo was priced at.

I dont think ill bother unless its cheap (which it wont be), or be an android mobile as well (which i doubt it, Sony will want a dedicated system and the fact that you could play andriod mobile games on a playstation will be a no go), so all in all…looks like im not going to own a PSP2

They should really know better at this point. The 3DS will chew up and crap out any new console they come out with, regardless of how good it actually might be.

And you know this based on all the hands on time you’ve had with both machines?
I’m not saying that the 3DS wont be better, but it’d kind of silly to say that Sony should either a) use the 5 year old psp to compete with the 3DS or b) drop out of the race that they’ve already invested millions into because Nintendo is doing the inevitable and releasing a new system. That’s how this industry works.
It is possible for both the PSP2 and 3DS to exist and be profitable side by side.

Well, er… no. This could have a HD screen, possibly 3D, run at 60fps, and be great to use. Basically a portable PS3. And that is better than the 3DS. If it turns out like that…

Not if it has a 3 minute battery life ;)

Well the HM PSP has a better battery so they’re obviously aware of that problem.

Oh boy. Expect a big ‘no comment’ from sony while KB uses him as a human pencil sharpener.

how can they have a psp2 but not a 3ds?

That’s what stood out to me the most. The 3DS is clearly close I would have thought that they would already have one of them.
Maybe Sony is focusing on getting a better set of launch games for it or its just a early dev kit which will still have a lot of changes to come.

Yeah, I guess they’re hoping to launch with a solid set of launch titles – maybe there’s a slightly different (Cell-based?) architecture and they want to devs to spend time with it first, to avoid PS3-esque complications.
