Those of you with a Nintendo DS may be aware of Level-5′s ‘Professor Layton’ franchise, which burst onto the scene a few years ago. It seems that quality products such as that have caught the eye of Capcom, as it has been confirmed the two studios are working together on some “truly interesting things.”
In an interview with Capcom’s Keiji Inafune and Level-5′s Akihiro Hino, Inafune had the following to say:
“This rumour is true. Right now, the two of us, with our staff, are working together on some truly interesting things. Even though Mr. Hino is younger, he’s someone I respect. I wanted to try working with him, so I contacted him.
The thing I most respect about Hino is his work ethic. Before I met Hino, I had confidence in the amount of work I was doing, and even thought that maybe I was the hardest working person in the game industry. But after meeting him, I thought, ‘I’m probably not number one.’
The Professor Layton series has shipped 9.5 million units worldwide. The Inazuma Eleven series has shipped 2.7 million units domestically. Who wouldn’t want to work with someone like Hino, who works hard and also produces results?”
A very interesting combination – and we can’t wait to get a glimpse of these ‘truly interesting things.’

Capcom will team up with just about anyone it seems. Should be interesting to see what comes out of this though.

Well with the speculation of Megaman Legends 3 on the way this might be it.
That or Professor Layton’s going to be in SSFIV as a DLC character.

I wonder which console this’ll surface on… I’m interested regardless, Level-5 is a great developer.

I’m torn, a company I have no faith in teaming up with a developer I have nothing but faith in. Here’s hoping it’s Level-5 wearing the trousers in this particular partnership.
