Rumours are rumours.

News circulating this morning that LittleBigPlanet 2 has been delayed into 2011 has been classed as “rumour and speculation” by Sony.

First appearing on French site PS3Gen, who cite an ‘internal source’, the news that the game wouldn’t meet its Mid-November release date have been quickly sidestepped by SCEE, saying only that they “won’t comment on rumour or speculation.”

Sony’s comment is the usual flat out conversation stopper, neither confirming or denying the rumours, only accepting that they exist.  Frankly, any game going up against the likes of Black Ops and Gran Turismo 5 needs to be 100% confident in its ability to sell, and a 2011 window does make a little more sense.

LittleBigPlanet 2 recently opens its doors, so to speak, to a fairly limited beta, which we covered here.

    • Nah, they wouldn’t make that mistake again! They have all been saying how hectic it’s been in the studio though, so perhaps the game just isn’t finished.

  2. With all decent Move games being pushed to the early 2011 I think it is going to be a very quiet Christmas period for Sony unless they can get a big name title like this on the shelves.

  3. There’s nothing to look for this holiday season for me, except Rock Band 3. I’m not into racing games or FPS (Activision’s at least). Brotherhood is definitely not day one for me after ACII. This leaves Dead Rising 2, and pretty much nothing else (the Enslaved demo was not reconforting at all).

  4. I hate the COD effect, it’s getting a bit annoying, Reminds me of bloody X-factor and it’s ( almost ) guaranteed xmas nbr 1. Thank god last year we had Borderlands to fall back on for those non COD lovers. LBP2 needs to be released. My guess is that SONY have taken a look at the pre-orders compared with COD and pulled the 2010 release date, Id wager, they hate COD too.

So, maybe if we all pre-ordered LBP2 they’d change their mind.

    • with you on that! Everyone dodging COD pisses me off! I don’t give 2 f’s about COD, there are loads of better games worth playing, and its such a shame we have to wait for games just because another title is out.

I would LOVE Activision to just release a COD game box, a computer purely made to run COD, then not release another one on the PS3/360 :) The amount of ‘friends’ i have deleted off my list because they play COD each and EVERY time they are on the PS3 leads me to think a COD box would be a good investment

  5. Sony are making a bad move with their response. If I had LBP2 on pre order and there was a chance of it not arriving in November, I’d remove the pre order! Christmas is gonna kill alot of people wallets, so I think they have more chance of it selling before christmas than after!

  6. Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet! My son’s saving his pocket money for this and will be devastated if this is true.
One small thought, is LBP2 really in competition for the same £s as COD? COD’s an 18 cert so should appeal to the more mature and action based gamer where as LBP2 is aimed more towards the younger and family audience.

    • The competition is in the wallets of people who love all games but you have a good point about demographics. There’s very little direct face-off… just that we have a finite amount of money to tool around with.

    • your forgetting the amount of kids that somehow manage to get their hands on COD. i swear by their voices, they are getting younger and younger

  7. That would be a shame – LBP2 seems like the perfect poster boy for Sony’s Christmas period advertising…

  9. Nothings been confirmed at this point guys.

From playing the BETA the game is in a very polished and complete state already. If it is delayed then is purely to maximise sales, nothing wrong in that, however i think Sony will offer GT5 and LBP2 across Xmas. That’s a strong line up for the end of the year with lots of other Sony published games ready to hit early 2011.

None of us want another March 2010! That bankrupted me and the country by the looks of it!

  10. Might have nothing to do with GT5/CoD etc crowding the release calendar.

I’m finding the beta, most definitely a beta – depending how close it is to the code they’re working on, it most certainly isn’t ready for public consumption.

Good move Media Molecule, quality is paramount particularly with a poster child.

    • Completely agree though the lead up to Christmas is looking a little empty now. I only really had this and F1 on my list.

I may get Fifa if it’s cheap but nothing else interests me. The new Assassins Creed is a bit too soon for my liking and I’ve always found GT a bit soulless. There no way I’m get COD either after waste my money on MW2 last year.

2 years ago Christmas was fantastic (Dead Space, Mirrors Edge, LBP, Motorstorm PR, Resistance 2). This year looks a bit of a let down with all of those sequels now in 2011 and no news at all on Mirrors Edge 2.
