Gears of War 3 Delayed

So Gears of War 3, Microsoft’s flagship spring release, is set to become the company’s flagship “holiday” release instead. That’s right, if Joystiq are to be believed (they haven’t quoted their source and we didn’t get a press release) then the Epic trilogy’s conclusion is being put back in order to lead Microsoft’s holiday season.

Where does this leave Microsoft’s spring schedule? We’re not sure, Gears 3 was confirmed for an April release and it was pretty much the only huge title confirmed by the company. Perhaps they’re going to devote a full year to pushing Kinect before the holiday 2011 release window. As for that release window, there still isn’t much that’s firm and if Gears 3 is leading the schedule then what will we see at next year’s E3? Probably nothing too major for the end of year.

  1. Ouch, that’s gonna sting a bit. The 360 exclusive line up for the start of next year is pretty poor looking now compared to what the PS3 is bringing to the table during the period Gears 3 was supposed to be coming out. If it’s now their big “holiday” release for next year, does that mean they had nothing else “big name” to hype for that period that would be ready? If so, then Microsoft are going to need to pull something special out of the hat for next E3(Though given how bad their last two years have been…), or 2011 is going to be a pretty rough year for them.

This was the game I was likely to have to pick up a new 360 to play too… guess that’s out the window for a while longer.

  2. I hate the abbreviation for Gears of War 3, its such a copy cat of God of War 3!

    • that’s why I’ve forced (not really) my xbox owning mates to call it ‘Gears’ instead of GOW, God of War was first after all, so it should get first pick :)
