In a surprise announcement, Activision have confirmed that ‘Call Of Duty: Black Ops’ will support 3D on both PS3 and Xbox – assuming you have 3D TV. Treyarch studio head Mark Lamia picked up a big stick and jabbed out of the screen whilst saying:
“Development of stereoscopic 3D began as an R&D project, but once we saw what the technology brought to the Call of Duty experience, what a great fit and how immersive it was, we knew that we had to develop it for Black Ops.”
“We made sure the experience is seamless for gamers to use with a simple menu option to enable stereoscopic 3D or disable it at any time whether playing in the single player campaign, multiplayer or Zombies.”
Call Of Duty is famous for its super slick visual and 60 FPS frame rate, I wonder if Treyarch can keep these high standards while the game runs in 3D?

“assuming you have 3D TV” – Is this like a packet of peanuts with ‘may contain nuts’ written on it?

There may be stupid people reading.

Actually I agree with the nuts warning on Peanuts since peanuts are not nuts themselves, they are legumes.

Well, I doubt it’ll run at 60FpS per eye, but since it’s already at 60FpS, that makes turning it over to 30FpS per eye a piece of cake.
It might not be quite as silky smooth, but it’ll be rock steady at that frame rate, and since that’s what most console games run at without any complaints, I don’t think there’ll be many complaining.
After all, if you really really want 60FpS, you can just switch back to 2D polygonal play.

“2D polygonal play” – I love it when you talk dirty.

This may mean I have to get it on PC instead of console. Can’t afford a 3D tv, but I can afford a 3D monitor.

And now there’s one more question upon us: What do 3D Zombies Eat?
P.S.: Joystiq say that the visual quality drop with 3D on, so perhaps there’s no FPS drop.

Dear Santa,
I hope you would not awfully mind giving me a 3D TV for Christmas.
There will be cookies and some leftover milk for you if you hold your end of the deal.
No, seriously. Nothing brings the jolly holly Christmas-feel like killing terrorists in 3D. Sounds great!

If this turns out good, it may just encourage more people to adopt 3D. Although with the announcement of the glasses-free 3D TV earlier on, people who have been keeping an eye on it all may be reluctant to fork out the dosh. Just in the same way I’ve resisted the urge to buy a PSP as I’ve heard that a PSP2 is in the works.

Zombies in 3D!? I like the sound of that! Shame I don’t have a 3D TV though.

That was going to be my response. I didn’t think 360 was doing 3d, i remember some ms guy not long ago laughing at sony for doing 3d when nobody cares.

I knew it does but I think it’s harder to set up and only the newest models and the slim can do it

This 3D malarky is getting very boring very quickly. I’m leaving until the prices are reasonable (takes hat and coat from the coatstand and wanders into the night slamming door on way out).
