Just as heads up: the PlayStation Network is going down for maintenance in two hours, for four hours.
From 4PM BST until 8PM BST you won’t be able to sign into the PlayStation Network, although you may still be able to use the PSN if you’re already signed in (and don’t sign out).
Account Management, PlayStation Store and Account Registration will all be unavailable throughout the maintenance regardless of whether you’re in before 4PM or not. Sign in via the web (such as the official PlayStation Forums) will be unaffected.
Update: Looks like there’s been a change of heart over in Sony-land. A subsequent tweet by the official PlayStationEU account states:
“Ignore the previous tweet about PSN maintenance – it has been cancelled.”
Thanks, MusterBuster.

Damm, can’t play tier 1 without network connection, found that out last night to my annoyance when either the PSN went down at 10pm or I lost my internet connection!

“PlayStation Network will undergo maintenance this evening from 16:00 until 20:00 BST. More details of how you will be affected to follow.”
Isn’t that last sentence a bit uncommon for just ordinary maintenance?

They are probably adding more space, speed, load ect ect to the servers to cope with GT5,ACBH and a few other big games coming in the next month with heavy server loads.
Also i expect they have to maintain it due to all the new users it gets, they will do it again next month i think on the way to xmas.

Could be one of several things.
a) it does next to nothing, b) crossgame chat, c) the PS Store is now invaded by LOLCatz, d) It will modify the patch detection code somehow, so that MoH and onwards can’t be hacked, e) all your base are belong to Sony, f) it’ll trigger the LoveFilm stuff on the XMB.
I’m leaning towards C, personally…

Oh, great! 6 long months trying to put my ps3 online, finally got it yesterday and now maintenance… :P Well, as long as it keep things running smooth after GT5 launch, it’s worth.

If it took 6 months to plug in your ethernet cable, you deserve a little maintenance.

Took me 6 months figure out how to properly share my connection (3g, only option avaiable) between win7 64 and the ps3. Not that I expect much online play from this kind of connection, but being able to grab some games and DLC’s would be nice.

Does this mean that you won’t be able to play online?
I take it that the UC2 meet is cancelled

My guess, they forgot to dust it down during the night.

Yeah, there’s been an increase in maintenance over the past few months. Wonder why that is.

At least they are doing something about it though, PSN isn’t just sporadically crashing like it could be doing. 4 hours does seem a little much for routine maintenance though… and they always do it at inceonvenient times I mean 4pm-8pm? Why not do it when people are at work so they actually aren’t bothered!
