Why You Can’t Buy 3D Dot Game Heroes 46

I’m a huge fan of 3D Dot Game Heroes, I loved the game upon release and it’s still worth a punt months on, its timeless graphics style and Zelda-esque adventuring a surprise delight.

It seems Atlus were surprised by the game too, as figures released overnight confirm that the game sold 160,000 units in the States against lowly expectations of just 25,000.  That’s nearly six and a half times what the publisher was hoping for.

Similarly, another PS3 exclusive, Demon’s Souls was only expected to sell 150,000 copies but managed to move more than twice that with 380,000 sold in the US.

Both two games that are a million miles away from the usual blockbuster AAA fare, it’s encouraging to know that there are gamers out there with slightly more esoteric tastes than we give credit for.

  2. I hope they make a sequel, the only thing that would make it much better is a random map generator, do it atlus !

  3. It’s good to see this. Hopefully this will make sure that just because a game isn’t expected to sell all that well, it’ll still be given the chance.

  4. 3D Dot Game Hereoes and Demon’s Souls are among my favourite games on the PS3! Glad to hear they were successful :)

Still waiting for the European version of patch 1.01 for 3D Dot Game Heroes, which adds Sackboy and tweaks the completion time for the bloody Dash Circuits to a more realistic value. It’s available in the US since end of September, but there’s absolutely no information if and when the European publisher Southpeak will release it here :(

      • Aww… that’s so disappointing!! Well at least I can stop waiting now :(
Next time a good game is published by Atlus in the US and another publisher in Europe (especially if it’s Southpeak), I’ll import the US version, that’s sure.
        Cheers for the link, Sorethumbs!

  5. For all the hype and good reviews I have read about this little game, I am actually yet to see it in stores. It’s the same as the last transformers game the one which wasn’t bad ( please note I didn’t say it was good either)
If I saw it, I’d probably pick it up, but till then I’ll carry on playing warhawk.

  6. Couldn’t stand 3D Dot Game Heroes. Found it way too boring and one note for my tastes. Demons Souls on the other hand is easily the best RPG I’ve played this generation. Awesome game. Good to see it doing so well.
