Apple Has Money, Eyeing Up Sony?

The financial papers might not be a usual source for gaming news, but something circulating in the last hour or so (from Barron’s) is that Apple might be looking towards Adobe, Walt Disney or – get this – Sony for an acquisition.

ProActiveInvestors, as part of today’s round up, simply states that Apple is “facing speculation that it could acquire Adobe Systems, Sony, or even Walt Disney.”

Of course, Apple has a lot of money and these sorts of stories surface every other day – to be honest the company buying out Adobe would be of much more interest, but we’ll see where this one goes over the next few hours.

Presumably straight into the bin.

Update: We’re hearing that a move for EA is also possible and much more likely. It’s going to be a crazy afternoon on the US markets.

  1. Who said Sony or in fact any of these companies are for sale?

If they increase share holdings in any of these companies they would need to buy a lot of shares before they had a controlling stake and doing it via this method would be viewed as a hostile take over something share holders don’t always take kindly to.

If any, Adobe seems the most likely as their products fall into the designer creative market that Apple are already very successful in, in terms of hardware, cornering the software side would be a smart move.

  2. If apple does buy sony, I expect the next istation to be over $1,000.

  3. Wow, I didn’t know there was so much hate for Apple. I expect MS to get bashed, but this is surprising.

I almost wish they’d but Sony just to see what people’s reaction would be…almost.

  4. EA is a far more sensible bet for an outright buy.

But Sony would be an ideal investment opportunity, not just for gaming but for the hardware too. Sony computers running Mac OS X, iOS Bravia TV’s, etc.

  5. This is a bit crazy. But all the more reason why I can believe it would happen.

  6. if they take over sony i dont think il be able to afford the price hikes. r.i.p gaming

  7. Apple has nowhere near the capital. This is just another pile of bullcrap posited by some intern hack who thought he could get some hits up on his site. EA? Possible, but I wouldn’t count on it either.

  8. Cant see a takeover, maybe a fusion of the two. So long as my beloved Playstation isnt compromised I dont really mind….
